Update: Due to the terrible way I was treated at check-in by the front desk manager, I have lowered my rating to 2 stars. I will not be back anytime soon. No one should have to put up with that kind of experience I endured at check-in. Totally unprofessional from the management, no less. The room was decent and the rest of the hotel, its grounds, the parking structure and casino area were good. The pool was loud, water was dirty and it was incredibly hot and humid. Couldn't wait to get out of there after 15 minutes. Also, it is very difficult to get to the pool area from the Blu Spa Tower. A lot of walking through a labyrinth of halls, cubby type areas, elevators and a filthy basement with dangerous wet tile floors where the pool and exercise area is located. Best to skip the pool, entirely. First time in Indiana and I was pleasantly surprised when I heard that there was a casino in Michigan City. So, I stopped in to check it out. Very nice and convenient location. I felt safe going there both at night and during the day. Parking was plentiful and had option for garage parking, valet or out in the open. Chose open area for parking and walked a short distance to the entrance. Very Vegas like and I was impressed. It is bright, full of the newest slot machines and it wasn't crowded. Stopped by to get my membership for the Player's Card Club. The representative was very nice and knowledgeable. Less than 10 minutes signing up and was off to play the slots. So many games to choose from. Older games, newer games and everything in between. Many gaming tables, too. Multiple beverage stations available. Clean restrooms. Temperature in casino was slightly chilly, but not as cold as Four Winds in New Buffalo, MI. As for the slot games, they have many different Buffalo slot varieties, some I never heard of. My recent visit to Las Vegas didn't have the newest games, yet this casino did. Happy for that. Winning payouts were quite frequent for me and others. I was able to play a long time without losing very much. I definitely appreciate that. If there were any issues with my visit, it was the flooring at the front entrance of the casino. There is a steep ramp and it is very hard not to trip over it, fall and roll. While signs and different colored carpet somewhat help people to notice this hazard, it doesn't work well enough. I saw many, many people have near accidents, including myself and family members of all ages. It is a major hazard for any age or physical disability. It's NOT a good way to start your casino experience at Blue Chip. The other issue is the security gate that checks ID and such. While all casinos have these gates, Blue Chip has them AFTER the restaurants. Having them this way isn't very smart or practical. It's a nuisance. With all other casinos, these security check gates are at the front doors, not AFTER the lobby and restaurant area. This way, if you buy drinks at a restaurant, you are already through the security check. After purchasing a soft drink and a coffee at Blue Chip's Deli which is before the security gate, I was told I couldn't bring it through the security, even though security watched me buy the coffee. I had to drink it in the lobby or outdoors. Dumbest thing I have ever seen at any casino I've been to in my lifetime. Put the security gates at the front doors BEFORE the restaurants and main casino floor. All and all, though, this casino was a surprise and a pleasant one. While I like Four Winds, it's nice to see other places offer the casino experience. I'll be back soon, however, with no restaurant drinks purchased before the security gate. ...and watch out for that...

Read moreMy boyfriend had stayed at the Blue Chip years ago for work. He told me how him and his coworkers always had a good time at the casino. This year for his birthday he wanted to go revisit the place. Unfortunately it wasn't the same. When I booked the room apparently there were only smoking rooms available. Figured it would be ok. Stayed in smoking rooms before and they weren't bad. However it seems like they do nothing to mitigate the smoke smell at all. No air purifier or anything. The room smelled awful. The drapes seemed like they hadn't been washed in years. You could see the film on the lamp shades. Even the newer shower smelled inside. We contemplated asking if there were cancellations and other rooms available. We ended up deciding to just get some air freshener and hope for the best since we were trying to make it a fun birthday celebration. Thanks to some Glade and a peach candle it started to smell better. When I went into the bathroom there was some kind of gross sticky spot on the counter and in the sink. I ended up having to clean the sink up before we could use it. The toilet paper holder kept moving and the paper kept falling off. The shower not only smelled but it looked like it hadn't been cleaned properly in a while. The grout looked gross. Had to use the hand towels to stand on. I've been in smoking casinos before. This was by far the worst. Just like the rooms it seems like they do nothing to mitigate the smoke. It was really bad. We went there to gamble though. After walking around to check it out we wanted to head to the tables. A bunch of them weren't even open.My boyfriend went back down a bit later to play some poker. The only table they had open was a 3 card poker where you only played against the dealer. For food we ate at The Game once. That's a restaurant in the casino. The food and service were really good. Give that a thumbs up. The next night we ate at on of the other restaurants there. It was called Lakeside. You order at a counter. They give you cups to get your own drinks. Your food comes out carried by a robot and you wait for the server to come take it off the robot and put it on your table. Yet at the counter when you order and pay ahead they ask you to tip. The options are the same amount you would tip a full service waiter. They do offer the option to tip at the table. The food was definitely not as good as it should have been for the price. With the amount we paid they should be able to pay the servers more. I will say the staff was very pleasant. They seemed to always have smiles and say hi. We didn't have too many verbal interactions but when we did they were nice. We probably won't stay there again. It's unfortunate because it put a negative turn on good memories my boyfriend had from his last job with his former coworkers. He used to love the Blue Chip. I ended up taking pictures of the room before and when we were leaving. I was going to let the people at the front desk know but I really didn't want to put that on them. Took them when we left...
