My go to and favorite market for the last 10 years has been the Mountain View Farmers' Market. If I have plans on Sundays, I choose to go to the Sunnyvale's on Saturdays. I wanted to see how Milpitas Farmers' Market compares to the two and if it could cover our necessities as well. I must say I was surprised to see the number of vendors although it is not as big and varied as the MV's. I was also hoping to find more certified organic products, but that is not so. Still, it is a viable option if you do not want to buy waxed apples, cucumbers, zucchinis, or vegies that sit spoiled and moldy on the grocery store shelves.
The highlight of my visit to this market today was freshly caught mackerel and sardines from Monterey Bay ($4/ lbs each), which I gutted myself; no big deal, I am used to it. They also had a type of huge rockfish, which the vendor said they would clean.
There are ready to eat food vendors, two or three bakery vendors as well. There is a lady who sells eggs, too; I think she sells at the MV as well.
Although I arrived way too late, the vendors still had plenty of produce to sell.
I am grateful to be living in a farming state and having options and access to many farmers' markets around us. Thanks to all who make the markets possible during Rain or...
Read moreThis market is smaller compared to Sunnyvale or Mountain View but parking is much easier since it is at the mall, and if you in the morning you will not be competing with mall shoppers for parking. I had my mom with me so this made it much easier, as we didn’t have to park far away.
Don’t let size or # of stalls fool you however! I went today after a long time and found a lot of fresh produce. One thing that this location is really good for is variety of greens, I think many Asians would appreciate it. And you get the usual items like onions, broccoli, cabbage etc. not too many stands with tomatoes this time but there was one that had nice ones on the vine. Lots of choices for citrus fruits.
Non produce stalls included baked goods like pastry and bread, roasted peanuts, popcorn, fish, eggs and hummus.
Brothers, is the stall that had hummus, pita chips , baklava …very nice people and they allowed samples. The dips were very tasty. And they had some unique flavors of lebneh which I will plan to get in next visit. This time I got cilantro hummus and a baklava sampler. It was not cheap but I like to support local businesses as well as quality food, there no preservatives in the...
