James Irving Salon — Attraction in Minneapolis

I am a value-conscious professional (value as in I am willing to pay for quality and service), and Allen Ray certainly delivers. I have been a regular at the salon (Daniel is my usual stylist) for over a year. Service is great, very professional. The salon is kept meticulously clean. The cuts I have received have been consistently perfect; my "look" sagely chosen for my needs and face. Products (Aveda brand) are top-rate.

The value function is where the salon shines. One might expect any reputable place to be professional and clean. But, I have never enjoyed a more relaxing salon experience. For (very) cost-effective price, one gets a great cut, neck/shoulder massage, shampoo and scalp massage, after-cut wash, dry, beard trim, and I get (extra) a facial and arm and hand massage; all of this (minus facial) for flat cost, which also includes a free neckline and beard trim between cuts.

Every time I have been in, someone has offered a free beverage of my choice (water, coffee, sometimes beer, today was LaCroix, etc). Background music is soft and in the background. In terms of pure value, I doubt there is a better salon specializing in men's cuts in the Twin Cities. This is not SuperCuts, but SuperCuts does not provide anywhere near the same level of service. I definitely recommend coming here. It has a very relaxed, accepting, and warm atmosphere. The receptionist offered my boyfriend and I complimentary beverages - water, tea, coffee, beer - both times we visited, and made us feel welcome.

We both saw Drue for our haircuts, and she was amazing. Very knowledgeable, and I love how our haircuts turned out. She spends the last part of the haircut talking to you about what products are best for maintaining and styling your hair - not just their in-salon lines, but also inexpensive versions that you can buy at places like Target. The brands they do have in-house are very nice, though, if you want to go that route.

PS - a great place for fellow trans folks out there who want a good haircut, but are nervous about finding a chill place to go. Cannot recommend...

love it!!! i came in not know what i wanted but i wanted a change. my hair was down to the middle of my back and i came in there and they offered me a drink. I've been to other places and never got offered that...that surprised me right away then the stylist solest cut my hair from a picture i picked out and i was so surprised on how awesome my new short hair was then i wanted some color and a stylist i knew a little bit wanted to do it so i told her heck yea. she gave me the best burgundy purple ever. when i walked out after paying a good price my husband was wowed on my new style...thanks you all if i ever want another change in a while i will definitely be back cause you all are great from when i came in the door to schedule till the day my...
