I've never been the person who leaves reviews, good or bad, unless it was an exceptional experience and Trapped Puzzle Rooms would qualify for that! I contacted Trapped about a month before I was going to visit and asked them about setting up a proposal at the end of one of their rooms. In order for everything to go as planned I needed them to change a couple room times around for me, grab the ring from my hoodie while I was doing one room and get it set up in the second room we were going to do and allow us sometime after we escaped the second room so I could propose and me and my girlfriend could have a few minutes to ourselves before leaving the room. E.J., the manager at Trapped, responded to my e-mail promptly, was very accommodating and very friendly.
I chose Trapped because my girlfriend is from Rochester, MN and we spend Christmas with her parents every year. For our first anniversary I gave her a magic wand necklace (she's a big Harry Potter fan) and told her that there's more to this necklace but she'll find out what that meant when the time was right. Long story short, the necklace is actually a key to a golden snitch and the golden snitch is actually a ring box. The idea would be that for the last 2+ years, she's been wearing the key to her engagement ring around her necklace and had no idea.
We first did the Eternity Battle room and had a blast! There were plenty of puzzles that I haven't experienced before or had a fun twist on them (I've done 300+ escape rooms so far). It was so much fun that I actually forgot the whole purpose of why we were there for the second half of the room!
We did Witchcraft Alley next and it is probably in my top 20 of favorite rooms that I've done! I knew my girlfriend would wear the magic wand necklace if we were doing a wizard themed escape room (she likes to accessorize) and that was the reason why Trapped was perfect for my plan. As soon as we got out of Eternity Battle I remembered why we were there and started to get a bit nervous. Luckily Witchcraft Alley was an incredible escape room and SO much fun and that really helped me get out of my head! At the end of the room we had to say magic spell to make something magically appear (I'm being vague to avoid spoilers) and when it appeared, the golden snitch ring box was snugged in the middle as well. Shortly after we finished the room but my girlfriend noticed that we didn't use the golden snitch. I had a whole speech prepared and memorized but in the moment my head was completely blank and I could barely talk. I was able to at least get out part of my speech explaining what the magic wand necklace represented and that it was actually a key. I had her put the magic wand into the golden snitch and....it didn't open. You see, the wings wouldn't stay on so I had to gorilla glue them and being so anxious about keeping a secret from the woman I loved and so one track minded about making sure the snitch looked good I actually glued the box shut. That morning I realized this could be a problem and I brought a couple tools with me to try to chisle out the glue. After struggling for about 5 minutes our game master came in with a couple tools, dropped them off and still gave us alone time. After 5 more minutes of struggling she came back in and said "you can totally say no to this but would you like me to take a look at it?" I told her "please, we obviously don't know what the hell we're doing!". I really wish I got her name because she was amazing! You could tell that she was determined to get it opened and she wasn't letting us leave without being able to properly propose. After just a minute or two she was able to get it to start opening and as soon as it was clear that it was good to go she just handed it back to me and hurried out of the room so we could be alone again. I was able to propose, she said yes and now we have a funny story!
I can't thank Trapped enough, the whole experience was incredible. The staff couldn't have been nicer, the rooms were a total blast and it was a day I will...
Read moreI booked this for my son’s birthday. Six boys, 13-15 and myself- probably fell about 10-15 minutes short of being about to complete the Eternity Battle.
The pros were the ease of booking and friendly welcome. It was easy to add on one more ticket at the last minute. The costs are also a little lower than other metro area escape rooms.
The cons were that we had two elements fail during our experience. One vault became disengaged when it shouldn’t have and the staff had to come in and reset. Then when we were deep into a puzzle and all very focused, foam bricks dumped on us from high up and really startled us. We were told on the screen “sorry, that is for the end.” At the end she said she has no idea how that would have happened. Another con is that we were given a strict “second warning” on the screen about taking pictures. I looked around and not one of us had a phone on us, and there was never a first warning. I had to say “no one has a camera or phone!” The timer was also off. She said something like “it’ll say you have 15 minutes, but you really have more time than that.” The last con is that it was dirty. One of our kids had black/grey smudges on his legs, hands, and face. I had it on my hands. I don’t know what element of the puzzle did this, but it was a bit odd. Just don’t wear your best clothes. :)
I felt like we were solving things at a fair pace, but then at the end we were shown how far we were from the end. Combined with the cons listed above, it just all felt a bit discouraging at the end. We were told on the screen and after that “the next group is here, you have to go. We have to reset the room” That is understandable, just felt rushed/hurried.
There is no screen for the last 1/3 of the puzzle, and that is frustrating too. You have to go into a different room to see any messages.
I wouldn’t recommend this experience for a group larger than 4 people or for non-adults. The puzzles are clever, and I wouldn’t be opposed to trying a different room…but there is a lot to solve in a short amount of time. A great challenge, but must be fast and hope everything plays out accurately...
Read moreI am currently on a road trip to Minnesota with friends and we decided to do an escape room to pass some time. The room itself was fantastic. Great puzzles, very interactive, and very well designed. The issue came at the end. As we were completing what seemed to be the last puzzle, we pushed on what we thought may be a button. We by no means used any excessive force (we were told at the beginning of the room that we "may need to use minor super strength" to open things). It was at this time that the Game Master (Brian) entered the room stating " can't have you pressing on our shield man, your game is over" then walked out. We were left standing there very confused as to how the room was supposed to end or what we were supposed to do next. We then had to ask about the last puzzle which he very quickly showed us how to unlock with no further explanation then stormed out once again. At this point, we got our stuff and went to leave. We apologized for pushing on the shield and got "It was a little too much for us" in response as he walked passed us. I have done well over 40 escape rooms in multiple different states and have never once been treated in such a way. In every room I have ever done, if we did not escape on time, there was an explanation to the end of the room, we were asked if we had questions, and they showed us out. Even if we were not supposed to push on the shield, there was a much more professional way to relay that information. Instead we were kicked out with absolutely zero explanation as to how it ended. Brian completely ruined our experience and was extremely rude and...
