I experienced a terrible reaction after brushing my teeth with a new brand of toothpaste- my lips and gums began to tingle. The sensation I experienced tasted minty with a cool flavor along with swelling and redness. I literally sat there in my bed watching my lips go from normal to gigantic within 30 minutes of brushing my teeth. I sent a selfie to a family member. She gave me Benadryl to take for the swelling. The following morning I noticed my lips looked much better than the previous night. I continue to take the Benadryl for the allergy. Curious about the symptoms of toothpaste allergic reaction. I searched the web for any information pertaining to my condition. I found a website with reviews on the subject of toothpaste allergic reactions. I knew then I was not alone with the symptoms I was experiencing. The swelling of my lips finally reduced to normal size but I began to feel more pain. I decided it was time to seek medical attention. I walked into UPMC Urgent Care and was seen by Ashley Lynn Holl.on Sunday August 7 , 2022. My God the worst nurse practitioner Iâve ever experienced. After explaining what I just wrote in this review. She tells me that I have Cold sores. I told her that I did not have cold sores. Iâve never been treated in my life for a cold sore. She said it didnât matter. Cold sores are viruses- she said. I showed her one picture that I took during the time span of the 30 minutes that I brushed my teeth with the toothpaste and the reaction I encountered. Didnât matter she said - itâs a cold sore. There was no swelling on my lips when she asked me to remove my mask. I was there only for a topical steroid to ease the pain. There were no sores in my mouth or broken skin. Just pain. And a lump that I said hurts when it pressed upon. Her reply- of course itâs going to hurt because you keep touching it. Smh- honestly -I was ready to walk out the door and deal with the pain. The only reason I went to UPMC Urgent Care was for a topical steroid for the lip pain. I had researched the information on a topical steroid cream for short term recovery. This nurse suggested Valtrex for cold sores. I told her NO NO NO. I wanted a topical for allergy. She asked if I would take it in pill form. I told her NO. I did not want more pills. She claimed she wasnât comfortable with a topical even short term on the face. All she was interested in was a cold sore remedy.I sai No. She asked about a steroid injection which I honest to God thought was for allergy pain. After a few more bantering back and forth on her diagnosis of Cold sores. She finally said to me - youâre not convinced that itâs Cold Sores. Again I said no and that it was an allergic reaction to toothpaste. She touched my knee to try to get her point across as to why she was certain it was a cold sore. Doctors and nurses arenât always right. She wasnât in my home when I used that toothpaste and got a allergic reaction thirty minutes later. I literally took selfies of my lip from normal to abnormal in that time frame. I have decided to follow up with my pcp and explain that this nurse got the diagnosis WRONG. Later today I will file a grievance with UPMC Patient Relations Departments. I will also contact my insurance companies to let them know about the bad experience and file a grievance with them as well. I am the PATIENT. I was the one sitting in that room going through that horrible experience. I will not accept a diagnosis of cold sore when it had NOTHING TO DO WITH AN ALLERGIC REACTION TO TOOTHPASTE. PERIOD When I arrived home I went on the internet to research Cold Sores and images. Absolutely Not what I have. Cold sores spread from person to person by close contact, such as kissing. They're usually caused by herpes simplex virus. I lost my husband five years ago. So yeah IMPOSSIBLE to have...
Read moreDONOT GO TO THIS FACILITY I am appalled at the service and treatment my wife received at the hands of the nurse practitioner STEPHANIE, at the monroeville office. She was rude, would not look at my wife and refused her the service we were there for. I am NOT a review writer and most things in life i let go because i never know what someone else may be dealing with that day in their own life. HOWEVER LET THIS BE THE FIRST !!! My wife was attempting to get a physical for her Pa. Drivers license, not a cdl not a commercial anything and with that im stynned as is everyone to whom i have spoken with that Pa. Requires a 40 year old woman who has been driving for decades in Maryland to need a physical but that aside. My wife does have high blood pressure and it is managed she is under a doctors care since we found out 3 years ago and she is also quite a nervous person a bit introverted as am i. As are many. But, this STEPHANIE PERSON decided she would treat my wife based on her history rather than her present, as she perusued her medical history, again not even looking at my Wife she decided she was not up to what i can only assume were STEPHANIE'S standards. Her bp was a bit elevated yes, her white coat syndrome was in full effect as STEPHANIE SILENTLY SUCKED THE AIR OUT OF THE ROOM. Then proceeded to let my wife know that she was "so sorry to bust her bubble" but she wasn't going to sign her papers. And would have the money refunded. Dear STEPHANIE what comes around goes around you made my wife cry, you made her feel less than, you are not a good person in my estimation, and should never be allowed to practice medicine again. STEPH, the staff their who were very nice and happy to engage us as humans well they were appalled. I understand this is not the first time you have acted in this manner. I will be following up on this matter further with UPMC and every other appropriate medical board. You do not belong in the...
