Based on the reviews, I thought we were safe. I come from a family of retired pawnbrokers, so I know what’s involved in repairs because we always had a jeweler on sight in our stores. After all, I took my own vintage wedding band here to have it sized down a year or so ago. The sizing was done properly, however there was a sharp piece sticking out on the inside of the band that was poking me. I noticed it at pick up right away. I had to leave it there for additional time to have it corrected. I was told that piece sticking out was where the band & ring of a vintage set would be attached. So, I just chalked it up to an oversight. No harm, no foul. They ended up fixing it. Fast forward to last weekend when my son needed to have a family heirloom ring sized up a couple sizes. It was just gifted to him by his Grandmother. It belonged to his late Grandfather. This ring was custom made, with my late father in laws initials inscribed. My son was named after his grandfather, so they bear the same initials. This ring can’t be replaced, it’s one of a kind. It was priceless to my son. I felt comfortable having him take it to get it sized. Simple enough task, right? Boy was I wrong! He went to pick it up this week, the ring had a crack in it. This is AFTER it was sized. It was noticed right away by my son at pick up & acknowledged by the jeweler. He offered to fix it properly but it had to he left there for an additional period of time. Sounds familiar, right? Well, he went today to pick it up, low & behold, that crack is STILL there! What the heck? Keep in mind, this ring sizing cost $170. The jeweler offered to fix it a THIRD time. My son was so upset, lost all faith in this establishment (as one should) & said NO, I don’t want you to do anything else to it. My son was afraid the integrity of the ring would be compromised by all the work done to it. Honestly, the ring doesn’t even look like the same ring. It was aggressively polished to a high shine & the intricate artwork on it looks rubbed off. They did offer a full refund. My son accepted that, but to add insult to injury, his credit card was charged an additional $170 instead of refunded. The mistake was caught & fixed. Hopefully it will all clear correctly in his bank account tonight. I called the store to speak to the jeweler myself because my son came home very distraught. The jeweler basically mimicked what my son said & he then explained his reasons why there was a crack in the ring. He mentioned the fact that he rushed the repair & that was his fault for not taking his time on it. The jeweler was pleasant on the phone, apologetic. I almost felt bad for him, but I felt worse for my son. For the life of me, I still can’t understand why this ring couldn’t be sized/fixed properly. I gave 2 stars only because they refunded us, but that was the very LEAST they could’ve done. I TOTALLY regret telling my son to take his ring there. It’s simply not the same ring it started out as. I wouldn’t trust them with a family heirloom much less a watch battery replacement. Very upset...
Read morePersonalized Service! I was wandering aimlessly among jewelers until I walked into God In Art. As a team, they created a meaningful piece of art in the form of a ring. And sentimentality aside, they did the work for a reasonable price, in the time promised, and with professionalism.
When I brought my ring into Gold In Art, I was frustrated that, despite working with a different jeweler to design my customer ring, it was still not what I had envisioned. Cheryl listened to me, looked at my pictures, and repeated details back to me to confirm she understood what I wanted.
Then Cheryl wrote up the estimate. I had to leave the store to compose myself. Now, the price was not exorbitant--it was reasonable given the amount of work that needed to be done. My tears came because I had waited months and had paid for the work to be done--and over the time I had been waiting, I had been laid off.
Cheryl was kind and empathetic. When I said I could not move forward, Cheryl did not press me or try the hard sell.
Once I had a job lined up, I brought the ring to the store. While the ring was being transformed, Cheryl, sent me pictures to confirm the changes. When an additional costs arose, Cheryl explained the need and the cost before the work was done. And all of this was done within the promised time.
The ring was just what I had envisioned down to the tiny details. Cheryl took my input, conveyed it to her sister who drew up the design, and then to their nephew. (I may be messing up relationships and I can't remember names, but I remember their faces!)
The best part of the process was picking it up, of course because I wanted the ring! But also because, after months of jewelers critiquing or not understanding the design, Cheryl and her sister embraced the design and shared my appreciation of the meaning.
The ride to Mount Dora is a bit of a ride for me--and totally worth the drive for such a caring and...
Read moreMy wife and I have been customers at Gold In Art Jewelers for the past 11 years. Our first visit was shortly after returning from a trip to Alaska where we became engaged and purchased the engagement ring. We brought the ring to Gold In Art to discuss how it could be used as centerpiece for designing her wedding band. The service, creativity, craftsmanship, and quality were, and continue to be, beyond excellence.
Although we are not often in the market for purchasing jewelry over the past 11 years we have made a few purchases and would NEVER go anywhere other than to Gold In Art. There are too many reasons to write in one review but I want to highlight the ones that are of most importance to us. First, ever since our initial vist they have made us feel like family - we are proud to tell friends and family that Gold In Art is "Our" jewelers. Secondly, we have complete trust in the quality of their jewelry, their work, and their information. We know, without question, that the price quoted is always reasonable for the quality of what we are purchasing - that confidence is "worth its weight in gold". Finally, they take personal interest in learning about us, what we like, and make suggestions tailored to our personal tastes and NEVER try to guide or pressure in any way.
We would never hesitate to recommend them to anyone and we look forward to our continuing...
