In February of 2016 I was in the market for a new home desktop to replace an aging desktop that was custom built here locally in 2006 by a computer shop that went out of business a few years back. So I let my “fingers do the shopping” (via a Google search for local PC shops,) and I came up with the usual suspects here in Salt Lake. But I also came across a new place there in Cottonwood Heights: REVO Technologies.
I’m all for supporting the ma-n-pa shops, so I called REVO and spoke to Jerry, the owner. Jerry was very helpful and answered all my questions in detail…so I made the decision to go check them out in person. And I am very glad I did.
As it turns out, Jerry used to be my customer support person at that “former PC shop” where I bought my 2006 custom system. Jerry was my go-to guy when that machine needed servicing, and he helped that PC survive four operating system upgrades…Windows XP, Vista, Win7, and now Windows 10, along with a number of enhancements to keep it supporting my wife and sons for nearly ten full years. So I was pleased to see that Jerry and his family decided to go down the entrepreneurial route and open his own computer shop here in SLC!
I found REVO to be a real computer shop with an large and fully stocked showroom displaying all manner of PC hardware…cases, mother boards, GPUs, monitors, keyboards, mice, cables, and everything in between. So when I laid out my specs for a new machine, Jerry provided me a quote that met my exact needs. Jerry and I sealed the deal on a new Revo Stryker desktop using a beautiful full tower Antec Eleven Hundred v2 case, Intel i7-6700 chipset, Asus H170-Pro/CSM motherboard, 24GB of DDR4 2133 RAM by Micron, an EVGA GeForce GTX 970 SSC ACX 2.0 4GB GDD5 GPU, an EVGA SuperNova 750W power supply, a Samsung EVO 850 250GB M.2 SSD supported by a Seagate 2TB 7200 SATA data HDD, 'refrigerated' by a CoolerMaster Evo 212 cooler, and all brought to a beautiful Asus VG248QE 24” 144Hz LCD monitor. It was built in a week, and we’ve been enjoying it ever since. We even purchased a new a new Logitech K800 wireless keyboard, and Logitech M510 wireless mouse from REVO. For speakers however, we kept the original Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 speakers with sub-woofer…which remains an outstanding sound system.
Although we were challenged with a minor cold boot up issue, Jerry and his technicians Dylan and Matt resolved the issue by tracing the boot error to a faulty RAM card…a bizarre glitch that was easily resolved. Once all three of the 8GB memory modules were replaced with new units, it’s been running like a champ. So at 56 years old, I am not a gamer by any stretch of the imagination. However, this unit should be able to handle anything thrown its way. First game up…Dirt Rally 2016.
If my employer will allow me to buy my own laptop for work, I will return to REVO and purchase one of their Clevo-cased high performance laptops!
A full five stars for Jerry and his crew there at REVO...
Read moreI recently conducted business with this company in regards to building a new computer as my old one was very outdated. I went through multiple different outlets in search for the best prices. I came across Revo Technologies as part of my search. Not only were spot on with assisting me based on the info I gave them, Jerry did a fantastic job following my specific build requests. Props to him.
I am by no means a standard user as I have built a multitude of systems over my life time. The thing that sets them apart is that they didn't attempt to shove anything closely related to up-selling down my throat. They made informed suggestions based on the hardware I was requesting that was similar in price point or lower in some cases, without sacrificing the power and performance.
Just to paraphrase an interaction I had with Jerry specifically, we were on the phone as I had called a couple of times and we were going back and forth regarding specs. I mentioned a difference in performance vs price point for a specific CPU as a reference. He then did the opposite of what I thought he would do. He began to bring in benchmarks and mentioned that he would pull that information for me just to prove a point. I stopped him there and put my full trust into him. Someone that's going to quote benchmarks knows a lot more than your standard sales rep.
Not only was the service excellent, Revo Technologies was able to get me the parts next day. Compared to a lot of the places online or the other local shops, they had everything I requested in stock and ready to go the day of. I even received the total and final price including tax before I went in so I knew what to expect upfront. The staff were courteous, knowledgeable, and friendly during the entire transaction.
Overall, the experience I've had with this company was top tier and I would recommend anyone who is looking to build a computer or even just inquire about what they can offer check them out as it goes far past what some would consider the standard.
They can expect me to be a life time client and should expect to hear from me soon when it's time to either upgrade my current build, or create an entirely new one.
Just to give some specs here
CPU: Ryzen 5 3600 GPU: RX 5500 XT MB: B450 Chipset Ram: 16 GB Pow. Sup: 500 Watt Memory: 250 GB SSD
Along with the case and and probably some other things I can't name off the top of my head, the total price was sub 1k. I'd like to see ANY company beat that with essentially free next day pickup. I'd take pictures, but well.... I'm currently playing on it!
I provided my own hard drives and assembled the machine myself. It has ran flawlessly thus far. And I promised Jerry that I would give some benchmarks which i'll send him in an email soon. Thanks for being an...

UPDATED... I just wanted to updated my review of Revo Technologies. They did something that I've never had anyone do before and I think they deserve a lot of credit for it. After posting my review Sam reached out to me and asked if I'd be willing to give them another shot. I agreed and gave him the same spiel about what I was looking for. He hung up with me and gave a call back as soon as he had something to pitch to me. All of the PC parts he pitched fit what I was looking for and agreed and made the purchase.
He couldn't source everything that I needed but I honestly can't fault them for this given the current PC parts market. I'm just happy that they tried and did what they could. Sam even remembered to call me back a couple weeks later when something I had requested came in stock which Is super cool. After all is said and done it'd be a crime not to recommend these guys.
OLD REVIEW... I had a great call with Andrew but ultimately led to a bad call with Jerry. Some of it is probably my fault so it's not a one star. I sent them a parts list to try to match and got told by Jerry that they couldn't order Corsair parts at all. I said I wasn't married to them and wanted to feel out other parts. He didn't listen to me and kept suggesting I look for parts elsewhere because he couldn't get anything I wanted though I asked for his suggestions. He even sent me an e-mail after the call telling me he can't order Corsair parts and that's why he wasn't able to help me. Very confusing call and I wouldn't do business with them personally. Their other reviews are great so this is probably a one-off or something. I can't recommend them but I can't recommend avoiding...
