After going here for many years I wanted to share the truth about someone who lives here. After visiting for most of my life, 3 years ago I moved here and bought my resident fishing license at TWs in Nags Head. Come to find out the entered my name wrong on my fishing license. I got checked by the game warden and they couldn’t find me in the system ( knowing I had purchased it) they followed me back to my vehicle to search my coolers and to get my ID front my truck. They put my last name twice, I didn’t have anything I shouldn’t have but still an inconvenience that could have been avoided if they did their job correctly. The next year I got a new rod and reel from there and got some “ new braid” put on that had a loop knot halfway through it when I casted out the first time. I repaired it and moved on but still another inconvenience. This past month I purchased a kayak they had in store they had listed $600 above what I was going to pay online. They gave me some line about how it was for shipping( the website offers free shipping) I asked ( Chris “The owner” )if they could match the $1999 price online and I would get it. After some back and forth he agreed. Chris offered to put to it together. I came back the next day and it was assembled. I took it to the boat ramp and hour later and wheeled it over to the water. I made sure the rudder was working properly before launch and the 8 ball handle broke off with a very light touch. I called Chris and told him I wanted to bring it back because I was worried of the longevity of this product and I was meant to be a long term purchase. He argued saying I mush have hit it on my truck and he messed with it all day and didn’t have a problem. He would not return it and said all sales are final. I filed a warranty claim and got a new rudder handle sent in the mail after one use. I then got to use it the second time and the rudder mechanism itself is now completely loose. The rudder on was not installed correctly and is stripped out. I’m finding this was quickly assembled by Chris who claimed to have worked on it all day but didn’t bother to tighten the screws or install it properly. As an after thought you can tell they were trying to move this old inventory to get it out of their store originally offering a 10% on the kayak inside and a 15% for the ones outside since they have been in the elements. I see now they knew about the problems hence the discounts and they were trying to move these and was very firm on his no return policy. I’d be very careful about what you buy from them as it seems they have a ton of inventory and most of it sits for years ready to make a quick sale on a weekly visitor that will be long gone by the time they realize they have been sold a faulty product and will tell you to contact the manufacturer. I will never shop and TWs again and hope to save other from the headache. I hear locals say all the time they have very mixed experiences in that store sometimes they act like you best friend and other times they are very rude. I’m sure most of you have a similar experience. I have no reason to lie or bash a local company. I just want the truth to be know about their product. Don’t be fooled by these tactics and just go to Oceans East for all you stuff. They are always nice and very helpful over there. They won’t get another dime from me or anyone I come across asking for a good tackle shop recommendation. They like to respond with negative reviews about how they are sorry for the experience and it was miscommunication etc. I’d like to see what “ the owner” has to say on this...
Read moreRecently bought a pair of Costas from here a few days ago. As all costas do, this pair had the small stick on the lenses. This particular pair must have been sitting in the display case for a while, because this particular pair was left with a circular mark on the lenses upon taking off the sticker. A problem I’ve never had with my other pair of costas. Despite using micro fiber cloth and attempting to clean them myself it would not come off. Having spent a considerable amount of money on these glasses, I decided to take them back to the shop not to ask for a new pair or anything like that, but to ask if they could help or had any ways to get the mark off. Instead of help from the employee working the counter, I was met with mockery and was essentially laughed out of the store. I pointed out to him that you could see it better under the light, and upon doing that he laughed in my face and said “so it’s only a problem you can’t see makes a lot of sense ”. I’ve been coming to Tws for a long time and never had an experience like this. Disappointed to say the least. Not looking for any hand outs, just would like to not be mocked upon...
Read moreMy son lives to fish and wanted to try some fishing while we were on vacation on the OBX. I tried to ask a few local folks for advice and didn’t get too far so we popped in at TWs and were pleasantly surprised with the whole experience. They have a huge selection of stuff at incredible prices and the store is well maintained and clean. I wasn’t looking to purchase very much as we had about everything we needed but the gentleman that assisted us was more than happy to share his insights on how and where to fish, what setups to run etc. he was friendly and knowledgeable. He took time to walk us over to each item we did want to buy ( based on his input) and gave us several options with explanations. It was a great interaction and we...
