Nantucket By Water — Attraction in Nantucket

DO NOT waste your money. We had booked a kids fishing trip for what was advertised on the website as 1.5 hours. Upon booking (and spending over $600 with fees and gratuity included), we discovered our trip would only be an hour long. And then, in total, our pickup from the dock to drop off at the dock lasted a total of 50 minutes. They also have you pay gratuity up front along with fees BEFORE even getting out on the water.

Then, we went and simply tied up to a mooring in the harbor and caught a one single small fish. I wasn’t expecting an experienced fishing guide, but at least move spots and try to find the fish. I was shocked when 45 minutes in, he said it was time to go back to the dock. We were hoping to get our young kids exposed to fishing while also getting to enjoy time on a boat and see the island, but after spending over $600 for 50 minutes of sitting in the harbor, I would not recommend this trip to anyone. We had a truly wonderful time!! I reached out to the Nantucket By Water team to see if they could hold the date we wanted for a couple of days while I coordinated a few details, and they did, happily. They were quick to respond to any questions I had and were very informative throughout the whole process. I threw a surprise birthday party for my husband, and very easily had over 20 people on board (23 max- it's tight for walking around but perfect for standing, dancing, sitting and getting all of the views). They let us decorate, bring our own food, and had coolers for our drinks and a speaker to play music. The captain was super nice, and we felt very safe. We had a mid cruise break for bathrooms, and got great views in the harbor and an amazing sunset overlooking Brant Point. I highly recommend choosing Nantucket By Water for any type of event!! If you have the right expectations, then the sunset cruise could be a good experience I suppose, but my husband and I were not expecting the boat to be what I would compare to a golf cart on land. We pretty much just “putted” around the coastline on this tiny, uncomfortable boat that is likely what they also use for whaling excursions, not for what we were expecting to be a romantic sunset cruise. Unfortunately the clouds covered much of the sunset view, which is obviously out of the control of the excursion company, but from where we were on the water, I am not even sure we would have had an optimal view of the sunset anyways.
