Good food, TERRIBLE service.
If you're reading this in search of a good dining experience, I can 1000% recommend Lola 41 or Topper's.
This past weekend I stopped in for lunch at Cru on a girls day out and all the food was excellent! However, the service was terrible enough that I won't ever go back. I can't speak for every server, but ours was baaad. He looked miserable, never cracked a smile, and spoke in a monotone voice almost as if he was trying to make sure there was no ounce of joy or pleasantry to be found in a single word he said. He was slow. He seemed to ignore us and any attempts at eye contact or looking his way and only took our order when we explicitly asked him to. Same with getting a box for leftovers, the check, and taking our payment. The other servers/runners were the ones that refilled our waters most of the time and brought out most of the food.
We should have known how the experience was going to go after a very strange interaction with the hosts. We put our names on the waitlist and when it was our time to be seated my mother went up to the host stand and provided the same name she gave them when we first checked in. The hosts rudely said that it didn't match the name that came up when they typed her phone number into the waitlist. Why does that matter? They were snotty about it when I think they should have just let it go. People have nicknames, go by middle names, etc. I don't even understand how a name came up when they input her number as we've never been to Cru before.
Anyway, I'd look elsewhere if you can. There are so many fantastic places to grab food on Nantucket, but this...
Read moreDecent food, but painful seats, highly slanted table and rushed. My wife and I sat in the back bar area at a table for two. There was one cushy chair and one “director’s chair,“ which consisted of a one piece of leather for the bottom and one for the back, each slung between two wooden posts. My wife asked me to sit in the director’s chair, because it was too low for her. Within 15 minutes, I had lost all feeling to my backside and had pins and needles down one of my legs. The most uncomfortable restaurant chair EVER! In this area of the restaurant, the floor is fairly slanted. OK, I get that you can’t change the floor. However, has Cru never heard of tables with adjustable legs/casters, so it can be leveled? When my wife’s escargot was placed on the table, the sauce nearly spilled out of the dish because the table was so highly slanted. Lastly, our main course came out before we even finished our appetizers and had to be brought back to the kitchen. It was re-served to us the second I took the last bite of my appetizer. Talk about being rushed! We were there to have a leisurely meal. We didn’t have any kids, all we wanted to do was sit, eat, and drink leisurely. The whole meal took one hour and 15 minutes. At this price point, they shouldn’t rush you like that. In sum, I can’t recommend this restaurant to anyone, unless you want be rushed and...
Read moreOur dinner was delicious and the ambiance was beautiful. However, I would have given 5 stars if it wasn’t for our waiter who was not very nice. After waiting more than 30 minutes between our first course and entree, my husband politely asked our waiter if he would check on our entrees. His answer was brusque and inappropriate.....”it’s very busy, what do you want?” After that, he never asked if we wanted to see the dessert menu or coffee. It was my birthday and I know my husband had made him aware before we sat down. Another woman had a birthday and was brought a small dessert with a candle and this waiter and several others sang happy birthday. For me, he just brought the little dessert....no singing...I guess we were being punished for asking him about our entree. On top of that, a 20% gratuity was already added to our bill. I have been to many restaurants and never had the gratuity added when there was only 2 people dining. We usually always give a 20% gratuity anyway, but in this case I don’t think it was warranted. It was disappointing that such a lovely restaurant would allow this kind of reception from...
