The Black Dog General Store - Nantucket — Local services in Nantucket

Very diverse style of clothing ranging from classic to Nantucket prep. The material is soft, and sturdy, but the sizing is larger than average, I’m told this is because it’s originally designed for boat workers. They had a large portion of the store detracted to mens clothing in which the sizing was not properly organized and all over the place. One of the lovely sales associates, Caroline, helped me to navigate which pieces I might have liked, and checked ‘downstairs’ for my size. She was very cute, but even more so with her mouth closed. I took her recommendation and bought the oatmeal colored Nantucket hoodie in a size extra large. Sometimes when you're shopping in a place like in Nantucket you can feel that the proprietors of local stores can be a little...well... snooty. Oftentimes they're used to a large influx of tourists, and don't necessarily takw the time to make anyone feel uniquely special. At the Black Dog, Brian (who is the manager) gave us a completely different experience. He was polite and engaging, kind and give us help when we needed it on multiple occasions. He is a shining star amidst all of the traditional retailers on Nantucket. So if you get a chance to shop, make sure you wear a dog...a black dog. I give this establishment five barks.... I...

Extremely disappointed this time. I’ve been going there every year and I love there stuff. However, this year was a completely bad experience. I went there twice around 7:30 and both times they’re were closed even though the time says 8 on the door.

Then after purchasing items after you spend a specific amount you get a free bag. They ran out of the bags but had another one which you had to spend more to get and it’s not as nice.

Unfortunately, staff working this year is just a bunch of teens who really don’t want to be there. They just screwed around the whole time I was in the store. Not sure I will...
