I live in New Albany and love to workout so I decided to go here to see what it was like. I go to the front desk and tell the lady I’ve never been there and want to workout, she looks at me like I’m crazy and ask if I want a day pass. It was $12, so i went ahead and got it despite the high price. I ask how much the monthly membership is and she says around $51 or $53(I can’t remember exactly) and $57 for community which I have no clue what that means. She never explained which floor the workout equipment was on and wasn’t helpful at all. I read the signs and go to the second floor to a small area with minimal workout equipment, squat racks, small space for deadlifts and if anyone is using the cables they just may hit you if you walk past bc the area is just that small. I go to the third floor which is cardio and free weights yet the free weights were minimal and again the space was small and confined. The trainers didn’t seem to be super fit and this isn’t a place for someone who wants a good workout. I could have gotten a better workout from home. Total waste of $12, Katy Hearn gym is waayy better with better equipment and more room and cheaper, $10 day pass and $35 monthly membership. So if you’re serious about the gym, please save yourself time and money and don’t go to the YMCA...
Read moreAbsolutely terrible experience. The membership director is extremely unprofessional and rude. Her name is Charolette Simmons and she has got to be one of the worst human beings I’ve had the distaste of having conversation with. She couldn’t answer any of my simple questions without being snobby and shrewd. Several of the employees here are extremely rude and distasteful, but non are worse than Charolette. Completely aside from the fact that they have terrible service and respect for their members they’re also one of the dirtiest gyms I’ve been to. The bathrooms and steam rooms are covered in slime and fungus. The bathroom floors are probably some of the dirtiest you’ll find. I cannot imagine the fungi that lives in the tiles and carpet in the bathroom nor the last time they were cleaned properly. The place is always packed and they only have one machine for each workout. You’ll definitely be waiting on others to finish playing on their phones. I consider myself a pretty reasonable person but I won’t be returning after todays experience. Unfortunately I doubt the loss of me and my buddies memberships will matter much to such a greedy and disrespectful location. Definitely would not...
Read moreWe are new to the Y for nearly a month now. The programs for adults and kids are great. I would have given 5 stars if it weren't for the swim staff. My 7 year old swimmer is working on endurance. She likes to swim a couple of laps in the lap pool. Every time she goes to that pool, she is stopped. She was trying to find fins that fit. A worker approached and said fins are for lap pool. We said that's where she is going. She gets to the lap pool with a friend she made that day to do laps together. They were approached by another lifeguard who told them that the lap pool is only for laps. Guess what? That's what they were doing. My fave was yesterday. The kids were swimming laps again. They are kids. They have to stop at the end and catch their breath and maybe share a few words..but they were still completing laps. An adult approached waiting for a lap lane to open to swim in. My daughter and her friend were asked to get out for the adult. The adult was really nice and said they could keep swimming and even shared the lane with the kids.
Update: This issue has gotten better with time and the familiarity of seeing our faces. We've not had any more...
