It's a beautiful area for fishing or swimming, its 72ยฐ year around the refreshing & usually clear Springfed Comal River. It used to be the shortest river in the world within the city limits. It starts out of a spring in Landa Park ends into the Guadalupe River right below the last (tubers) exit on Comal River (corner garden ave & s.union st) by Schlitterbahn water park. This a historical area as Prince Solms came from what's now known as Frankfurt, Germany was then Old Braunfels, Germany thus deemed New Braunfels. It's a place to play disc golf or go to the famous tube chute to float the river. Spend the day picnicing as there are several tables or bring your own. There is a picnic fee. You can reserve tables at the Landa Park office if interested or just get there early and deal with park rangers about the fee ect. Glass Bottles aren't allowed and will get you fined for them. It has a small playground for kids. Limited parking areas at Hinmann Island and a bigger parking lot at tube chute area (Prince Solms Park). Get there early or no parking space. Which there's a fee to park your car. Welcome to our river. In summertime it's...
ย ย ย Read moreI came during the week after 3 p.m. to enjoy the river and relax. We packed a small cooler, a chair, and towels. We parked and headed towards the river. Itโs a short walk and we saw some deer snacking on some grass as we approached the swim area.
The park was nice and clean and the grass was maintained. You can plant yourself anywhere. There are picnic tables sprinkled throughout the park and all have a view of the river. Park rangers were patrolling and life jackets were available as well.
The not-so-pleasant parts: 1- the smell of marijuana; It would come and go. But, I think this is becoming the norm in many outdoor spaces and it wasnโt so bothersome to make me not want to go back. 2 - speakers blaring music. Unfortunately, one particular family plopped themselves right at the entrance steps to the river and blasted their music for all to hear, whether you liked it or not. About 20 yards away there was another family with their music blaring. So, be aware you may be forced to listen to music you donโt necessarily enjoy unless you bring a louder speaker that drowns out all...
ย ย ย Read moreIt was quite an experience. There was no parking at the park, even though they charged $20 to park. Next available parking was across the street for $60. My kids drove my car to a school a mile away so other than inconvenience, it was free. The park was nice but I will guess about a thousand people were there covering the entire landscape and the river. I estimated between noon and three oโclock, approximately three hundred or more poured in every hour. There was people everywhere. We found a little area and set up a canopy with our chairs and tubes filling most. After about twenty minutes, park rangers showed up and said that the plot we were using would cost $50 because we were not from New Braunfels. I paid reluctantly. We were able to enjoy Mexican music from several different picnic sites. One always trying to be louder than the other. What a joy to listen to five different songs at once and not knowing what they were saying. The river was nice, however, and the grandchildren and family enjoyed the water as they bounced thru all the...
