I know some are sick and tired of any discussion involving race, but the fact of the matter is I cannot in recent memory recall being treated as poorly and with as much bias as my wife and I were treated at this establishment. I observed a gentleman, who I assume was a manager or the owner, seating several tables with a kind and friendly demeanor. When he called us, as we got up to follow he literally left us behind and headed into the restaurant without even holding the door open. Not knowing where we were supposed to sit, we continued to follow. When he still did not acknowledge us, I asked to confirm if he’d called our name and he says “just sit anywhere.” So we sat at a dirty table. Immediately after this, the same gentleman seated another couple right next to us and this same gentleman proceeded to greet them, take them to their table, carry on a conversation, even made menu recommendations. I shouldn’t have been, but was in utter disbelief. I counted a minimum of 3-4 times he came to their table checking on them, carrying on and laughing, etc. Not once did he even speak to us. My words do not do this justice, you would have to have seen to believe how obvious his prejudice was. It’s too bad, because the food and our waitress were actually pretty good, but our interactions with the man totally soured our entire dining experience. As we were leaving, he was standing near the door and did not even acknowledge us or make any eye contact. As the door closed behind me, I heard him say a completely insincere “thank you.” I’m not one who only identifies by the color of my skin. That being said, I don’t expect special treatment…just EQUAL treatment. Had he bothered to be friendly, he might have found out I am a military veteran and a recent heart transplant survivor…just happy to be alive and out for a nice afternoon with his wife. I would not recommend this diner if this is how this gentleman would dare treat any customer,...
Read moreMy girlfriend and I were visiting New Braunfels for the weekend and we had looked up this restaurant that had great reviews. So we go here excited and hungry but end up waiting out front for about ten or fifteen minutes making eye contact with the server and manager several times. When my girlfriend went inside to check on their timeline, the manager ask if she had clothing to cover herself up. (She was wearing a crop top.) He then told us the wait for a table would be 45-mins to an hour despite several open outdoor tables. When we asked if we could sit outside the manager complied but kept rambling about how she would need to cover up and if he needed to get her a shirt. He seemed apologetic but the whole situation was off putting, awkward and weird that we ended up leaving the able as soon as we sat down. Only after we were in the parking lot did we have a server run out and ask if she could take our order. New braunfels is a town known for their waterpark and floating the river. Everyone seems to be walking the streets and eating in swim wear, I wonder why she was singled out for a crop top and long skirt.
Reading the previous reviews about how they appreciate and respect the military, police, and firefighters.. I wonder how they would feel if they knew that my girlfriend is a US Navy veteran and I myself am firefighter.
Side note: I was wearing an LGBTQ face mask and I can’t shake the feeling that the mask was the reason why we waited for so long outside despite making eye contact through the door...
Read moreMy mom had been wanting to try this spot and so we went a couple weeks ago. It was….a little disappointing. The food was fine/good. Not wonderful. But the place was definitely different than we imagined. Inside one room (which almost looks like a sunroom) has a giant, bright fluorescent light at the top, beaming down. Unsure why any restaurant would use big fluorescent lights like that. Makes me think of WalMart or something. Especially in the “sunroom.” We got sat at a sticky table after coming in. The restaurant wasn’t the cleanest looking. The woman who was our server wasn’t the kindest ever. She wasn’t terrible but definitely not personable. Very quick “what do you want, ok” boom-boom, in-and-out kind of service. It wasn’t even peak service time. She wasn’t rude or anything. Just…noticeably not super kind. The food was decent, I had the Belgian waffle and eggs. I’d hope a breakfast restaurant doesn’t mess up eggs. The waffle was good.
Really was just a “meh” experience. A baby was crying while we were eating in the small restaurant too. That has nothing to do with the service or food though. Was just a little cherry-on-top of the...
