Lamothe House Hotel — Attraction in New Orleans

First - I want to start by saying that the staff are all lovely people. No complaints there. If you stay, tip the room ladies well because they are really cool. And there are two adorable street cats that stay around the final room we were in, which was nice if you like cats. || My beef lays with management. ||I reserved the grand suite at 149$/night. The first night I could hear water dripping from the ceiling but I couldn't find it. The second night the water was pouring from the ceiling, and I realized it was the central AC vent. We went to the front desk, and were moved to a room in the Carriage House. After lugging suitcases up the stairs, we went into the room and there was a man laying in the bed sleeping because the room was booked. I scared the crap out of him and felt really awful about that. Even if he hadn't been there, the entire space was about 1/3rd the space of the grande suite and I'm not sure it had 2 beds, which is what we needed. Finally we got moved out of the main hotel space, out the back door and across the street to the last room down the path in the back. This room was most likely one for $129/night. Automatically there should have been a refund in the difference in cost for the downgrade, but there wasn't. The desk person that helped us said there would also be a partial refund that would be back on my card in the morning. Nope. Didn't happen. Then after the trip was over, and I contacted him back asking about it, he never responded. I tried to contact the hotel, no response. Finally I went through Expedia for help, and the hotel told them a few times that they'd have to call back, until finally they also sent an email to which there was no response. ||The final room was very obviously still under construction. The bedside drawers were full of sawdust, there was no safety lock on the door, the fire alarm was dismantled, the bottom drawer of the dresser was FULL of bizarre electronics, like 20 pairs of old headphones like you get on a listening tour, random wires and chargers, screws all tangled up. No exaggeration. It was WEIRD. I tossed those in the closet on the floor. There was a wall TV holder thing but no TV on it, the TV was older and on the dresser, which is fine but I'm mentioning it to further note that it was not ready for people. There was a floor lamp plugged in with no lightbulb. The cold water faucet in the bathroom didn't work at all. There was a door to a sitting area but the long door curtain was connected in a way that you couldn't open the door without taking the curtain off, and the outside sitting area was a mess anyway with a dead plant and acorns galore but nothing to push them aside. That last part wasn't a huge deal but it did add to the wtf of it all. We didn't say anything at the time because we were already told that was the only empty and available room. It was also let known to us that the place has all kinds of problems that aren't addressed. Added bonus - the pool was clean and then one night after a couple of people went in, it was murky and gross the next day which speaks to the filtration system. ||I 100% do not blame any staff members for this because it is clearly a management problem since they would have to be the ones to address these issues and do the refund. || I overheard some people talking about how the manager is cheap and doesn't want to pay the employees for their work so he cuts hours but then doubles the work they have to do in a day, so they have the same workload but for less pay which is believable seeing as there is no response at all. ||I will never stay at another of these French Quarter Guesthouses ever again. I am not a bad reviewer person who complains about everything and is a problematic person. I give a lot of leeway with these things because I know the staff work hard. I'm the person that cleans my room before check out, folding all the dirty towels and emptying the trash bin so the workers can catch a break for a minute. So the fact that I am complaining in a multi paragraph review, means there was a legit problem. ||I finally ended up having to contact my bank about disputing the charge partially in order to get the price difference back in the rooms, and the partial refund on the two nights of water. Technically I should also get an additional refund on top of those for being put in a room that was under construction and not ready for guests, but I can let that slide. ||So if you stay here, be...

What a Wonderful stay! The antique suite was beautiful. The bathroom was spacious and I liked the marble floors. It’s everything to be expected and more of an antique suite with two full size beds on the second floor. It was larger than the 1 bedroom apartment I lived in years ago. If these were small condos I’d love to live here permanently. (Just letting the viewers know the size is great!) The views of Esplanade are lovely at night. The hot water was nice and there was good water pressure. We parked at Clarke garage across town for $25 per night and then we payed an Uber $13 each way to and from the hotel so after those expenses, we realized we should have just used Lamothe House Hotel secured gated parking lot. The pool and courtyard are so peaceful. This seems to be a very laidback, peaceful hotel. No one was ever loud or rude in the courtyard. Housekeeping came twice and brought extra linens and toilet paper but also honored the do not disturb sign when it was up. Come and go as you please through the back gate and people seem to keep it quiet as they are passing by. There are not refrigerators in the Full two bed antique suite in the second floor so if you do anticipate having food or drinks, bring a cooler and place it on the marble bathroom floor (obviously not on the antique wood floors). Also there is no microwave in the antique suite with two Full beds. There is an ice machine downstairs in the lobby. There is a couch in the living area of the Full Antique Suite but no tv. the TV is in the bedroom. I’d expect most people to be out visiting in the city not watching tv in their living room area of their hotel. The room does have a coffee maker. Close proximity to Frenchmen and Decatur. Two blocks down from Bourbon. Best location in the French quarter if you ask me! Also on the more quiet side. Expect floors to creak, it’s an old house in New Orleans and you’re staying in an antique suite! The air works fine but I brought a box fan as I know what New Orleans weather can be like with the humidity coming indoors. Also as a comparison, I keep my house temp set on 67. I’m aware of this in advance so I prepare for these situations instead of complaining about a hotel on the internet. The air set on a nice temp of 72. Also, the pool was heated or just very warm and the hot tub was hot too. You will enjoy your stay and the proximity to Frenchmen, Decatur and Bourbon. Eat at Dat Dog on Frenchmen and try the $21 Ribeye at Turtle Bay. This hotel can sometimes be on the corner of parade routes if the parade comes down bourbon to Esplanade and then turns back on Royal. You’d be within a block of the corner...

This is our first stay at Lamothe House however we have stayed at all three of their other three properties and never had a bad experience. | |We arrived to the hotel around 12:30 pm. We didn't assume that our room would be ready by then yet but wanted to at least drop our luggage off and walk around Frenchman Street while we waited for our room. It did take a minute for someone to come to the door but after a few minutes we were let in. The hotel desk person on duty looked us up and she said that our room wasn't ready but there was a room that was ready if we wanted it - she would show it to us but warned that other people thought it smelled like mold. So we walked into the room and although it did not smell of mold, it smelled of very strong disinfectant and there were no windows and a queen bed (I had thought we booked a king). We told her that we would take it but thought we'd booked a king - after showing the front desk person our reservation on my phone, she said, "Hold on - " and I'm not sure what exactly happened but apparently someone had revised our reservation to a queen room so she called the manager and after a few minutes told us we would get a King room and she would take us to look at it. ||We were taken through their courtyard past the pool and down a sort of narrow exterior corridor to a building across Kerelec Street to our room. The room was still being cleaned but it was way nicer than the room we had booked (see pics - I would consider this a small suite) so we thanked her and left our bags in our room to go back and complete the check-in process. ||We had a very positive experience, if you were to ask me but I can say that had we arrived later in the evening, had we not had someone open the locked front door, and had to walk through that unfamiliar dark alleyway we would've had a different experience. The AC worked great (almost too cold!) and we never had an issue with hot water or water pressure. There was a fridge which seems rare nowadays at this price point. I found the room to be very clean.||As far as i know, this is the only one of the 4 properties which has a pool - the pool was great! Enjoyed it two of the days we stayed. ||The location is fantastic.... seconds from Frenchman and minutes from Bourbon situated on the edge of the French Quarter.||Daily housekeeping is not occurring but that isn't really an issue to me.
