Hotel is cheap and in a great location. Decor is old and bed wasn't real comfortable but ya get what you pay for. The room was very clean. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Rooms have window a/c units which I suggest leaving on even when you are gone or it can get muggy in the room. There is no designated area in front of the hotel to park to unload so you have to stop in the street and unload fast if you want to drop stuff off. There is parking along the street but of course none was ever open.
I would have given 4 stars if it weren't for the parking debacle we had. They have free parking on a first come first serve basis. We called ahead of time to see if any spots where available because we were on a time crunch to get to the convention center. They said they did so we went to the hotel to get the key to park and then just walk to the convention center. Once we got to the garage to park there were in fact no spots open. So then we had to go back to the hotel to drop the key off as they only have 1 and try to find somewhere to park and get to the convention center in time. We wasted about an hr of time doing this and would have just gone straight to the convention center if we had known there was no room in their garage. (which is why we called ahead of time) If you only have 7 spots it really needs to be kept track of so this doesn't happen to others. Also, they told the people behind us also they could park in there so I know the same thing happened to them.
All in all I would stay here again because of the location and price. If you want a fancy updated place this isn't for you. If you want a budget friendly, New Orleans style hotel that is clean with no frills then this is your place. Also as I mentioned before the staff was very friendly and helpful which I appreciate… just keep track of your...
Read moreThe staff was extremely helpful and friendly and always eager to be of service. The building is beautiful, the courtyard is intimate. Location, location, location! Everything in the French Quarter within walking distance and the walks are a must. Don't drive around the city or you will lose out on its charm. i took a different path every time and always found something new and interesting. As for ghosts, well, I'm a skeptic so if they are there they were certainly shunning me. Though I did see a skeleton playing the piano. I would give it five stars, but I have to say my room was not exactly as expected. I had three windows but two of them faced a brick wall and the third, which was my Courtyard view, was in the extreme corner of my room and only had a slight view of the courtyard and to see it you had to stand at somewhat of an awkward position. Since I was a single guest it really made no difference but if I had taken a significant other I would not have been pleased. But that is a very minor detail. The room was clean and comfortable and the bathroom was great. The WiFi never connected for me in my room (208). Be sure to bring toothpaste because they don't supply it. If you need an ATM there is one (with a small charge) a short distance away at Verti Marte which is also a great place to buy toothpaste ;) I hope you have as much fun as I did. Make sure you get yourself good and lost at some point to really have an adventure and don't be afraid to introduce yourself to strangers. The...
Read moreThis is a fine, inexpensive place to stay, but it's definitely not fancy. It's an old building, so you shouldn't be surprised to find that almost everything is a little rickety. The elevator especially. And the heaters. And the balcony locks (rather, they didn't work). They were also doing some renovation, which is great, but they also had a bunch of stuff lying around the halls. It seemed very amateur, which is kind of cool in a way, but not what I was expecting. It's less Hilton and more Fawlty Towers, if you take my meaning. The parking garage is a bit of a walk, and the neighborhood was borderline sketchy. It's not what you normally think of as a garage -- more a graffiti tagged warehouse that you pull up to, get out, use a key chained to some 2x4 to unlock a deadbolt on a door with a broken knob. The key sticks, and once you're inside you open the garage door with a button inside. Then you walk the key back to the front desk because they only have two. It worked, but it was a little weird. Really, that sums up the experience. Everything worked fine, but everything was just a little more rickety than I was expecting. Do I regret staying here? No, the location was amazing. Will I stay here again? Eeeeeh... Only if the price is right. I won't say I won't consider it, but I won't exactly...
