Washington Artillery Park is a fantastic spot to take in the beauty of New Orleans, offering one of the best vantage points of Jackson Square and the historic St. Louis Cathedral. Perched above the riverfront, it provides a peaceful overlook where you can catch the charm of the French Quarter with a touch of serenity. The park itself is dedicated to the Washington Artillery, a historic military unit, and features a cannon as a tribute, adding a unique historical aspect to the scenic views.

From this spot, you can see street performers below, jazz bands filling the air with lively music, and the bustle of people enjoying New Orleans. It’s a popular spot for photos, especially during sunset, when the colors illuminate the cathedral and the Mississippi River in the background. Given its central location, it’s easy to stop by for a quick break while exploring the area, making it both convenient and memorable.

For anyone visiting Jackson Square, Washington Artillery Park is a must-stop, whether for the view, the history, or simply a moment to soak in the atmosphere of...

Cafe du Monde. The best cafe au au lait and beignets anywhere. Update as of December 2021: WOW! Has this place changed since my last review. Beignets are still "okay" at best, but now there are NO waiters; you're served through a tiny window - coffee in a paper cup and Beignets in a bag as opposed to steaming-hot coffee au lait in a traditional cup & saucer with HOT beignets on a plate. The coffee is now TERRIBLE - nothing like what it's supposed to be. What a sad disappointment going to a place that I literally grew up with to find this low-quality excuse compared to what it was. Maybe Covid has something to do with their decisions, but all things considered, it's a lame excuse. Also, the once charming indoor seating is all gone - filled with boxes and other junk -...

I really enjoyed the area. It was so much to do, eat, and see in just one area that I stayed there for hours. I topped off my experience by riding the street car through uptown New Orleans for only $3 round trip. So, that’s my positive.

The other side of that is that there are people who try get money from you when you don’t ask for their shoe sign service. This guy told me, “I bet you that I can tell you exactly where you got your shoes.” He started rhyming and saying he can tell me the exact place and city. Then He says you got your shoes on your feet right here in front of me. He unexpectedly and without my permission poured a gel on my shoe and started to clean my shoe.

Side Note, the shoes...

This beautiful park has nice views over the Mississippi river. It’s located just a short walk from Cafe Du Monde where you can grab a quick coffee and beignets. And across Jackson Square where you can take a stroll and see the local vendors, artist and entertainers doing live performances or just relax on a bench while enjoying the ambiance. Now BE AWARE of locals that will come to you and ask you if they can guess where you bought your shoes, my recommendation is that you just ignore them and say no thank you and keep walking, those are con artists trying to trick you to get your money.
