Honest Review – A Learning Experience at Pasco Camera Exchange
I recently took my lightly used Sony A7 III to Pasco Camera Exchange to put it on consignment, and unfortunately, I left feeling regretful about the deal I made. I want to share my experience to help others make a more informed decision.
First off, the owners are very sweet and kind people, and they made me feel comfortable throughout the process. The gentleman, in particular, was firm but reassuring in his pricing, which led me to believe I was making a fair deal. However, in hindsight, I should have done more research before agreeing.
Their consignment policy is a 50/50 split, meaning they take half of whatever they sell your camera for. What I didn’t realize at the time was that the selling price they set for my camera was considerably lower than what I could have gotten on the open market. Essentially, by the time the camera sold, I walked away with far less than what I had originally invested—or what I could have made had I sold it myself. Net take home was $425 albeit the camera did not have charging cables, and a spec of dust was identified on lens which required professional cleaning.
This was my mistake, as I was new to cameras and equipment sales, but I now understand that selling independently (via platforms like eBay, Facebook Marketplace, or even photography forums) would have netted me significantly more money.
I don’t want to discourage people from doing business with Pasco Camera Exchange because, again, they are kind and knowledgeable people, and their store serves a purpose for those who value convenience over maximizing profits. However, if you’re considering selling your camera, please research used market prices first and understand how much of a cut you’ll actually take home after the split.
Lesson learned! I hope this helps others avoid the same regret I experienced.

Read moreI had an issue with a UV filter that was cross-threaded on my Nikkor 12-24mm lens. I had tried to remove it with filter wrenches to no avail. In my commute back and forth between my house in Syracuse and Wesley Chapel, I encountered a problem because this filter had now shattered on the last trip. I needed to use this lens in the up coming week and needed to resolve this issue. I googled Camera Shops in Pasco Co and found Pasco Camera Exchange. I called and spoke with Annette and she said no problem. I drove 40 min to get there and she remembered the conversation we had earlier. Two minutes later Jim had the problem that I had been screwing around with for way too long resolved. Unfortunately at my NY residence these mon & pop stores have all been forced out of business by the big box stores. I sincerely encourage anyone interested in cameras and/or service to try Pasco Camera Exchange. You are dealing with owners that are photography professionals and not some recent hire that only knows and sells...
Read moreI don't write reviews regularly but I just had to post about my experience at the shop. I called the day before asking for a specific style camera with a high budget. Jim answered and told me about cameras that would fit my needs, and were way under my budget. I decided to drive over the next day (right before Christmas). I was wearing my mask when I walked in and Jim immediately put one on as well (without my asking) and helped me find a camera. He showed me the perfect cameras for my needs and didn't try to upsell or hit my budget. I bought a nice camera, film, and case for a good price. When I checked online later, the prices weren't much different. Jim was absolutely respectful, knowledgeable, and honest: all you want from a business owner. This store has been open a long time for good reason. I've been to camera shops in Tampa that were much less friendly, so I recommend the drive here for any photographers (new or experienced) who'd like to support a good...
