Magic Johnson Theater: Where Your Money Goes to Suffer If you enjoy paying luxury prices for a subpar experience, then congratulations—you’ve found your happy place. For the rest of us who expect basic standards in a movie theater, buckle up, because this is going to be a ride. Let’s start with the concession stand. I hope you didn’t come hungry because you’ll be standing in line for 45 minutes just to get your popcorn and Icee. The only saving grace? The popcorn was actually fresh, and the Icee was solid. But at these prices—$20 for the combo—you’d think they could at least move faster than a DMV on a Monday morning. Once you finally escape the snack line and enter the theater, prepare to be underwhelmed. The lights were still on when the movie started, meaning I had to get up, track down an employee, and kindly remind them that movies are generally watched in the dark. Revolutionary concept, I know. Then there’s the ambiance: popcorn everywhere (including the bathroom, because why not?), a distinct musty bathroom smell wafting through the air, and seating that looked like it had survived a small riot. The seats were torn up and barely reclined—so unless you enjoy sitting at an awkward 90-degree angle for two hours, prepare for some discomfort. To top it all off, there was a crying baby in the theater. Because, sure, let’s bring infants to a movie where people paid $20 per ticket to enjoy the sound of the actual film. Look, I’m not expecting a five-star experience, but when I’m dropping $40+ just to exist in this place, I expect at least the bare minimum in upkeep and service. Instead, I got a rundown theater that feels like it gave up on itself a long time ago.

Theater floor super dirty never cleaned. They are super understaffed and management is super rude suckling teeth when they know you as a customer have a point. They refused to fix an issue that one of the attendants caused. Soda machine didn’t work for 90% of drinks and slushee was down as well. Only thing good was the popcorn. Update: Got bit by a bedbug and caught it after only being able to see 2 minutes of the movie. Called management they took their sweet time and the girl Manager gave no care to the situation she just looked at me with the look someone gives when they just don’t care about their job. Posted pictures below and called the 877 number that basically just said ohh someone will look into this and call you. Boy can I continue but I’m just done with it. If you don’t care about the theater why have it open and on top keep it so dirty understaff it and have people who just don’t care especially your manager.

Images added IM BAFFLED… Why ??? 6/29/24 . This is only theater we have in our neighbor ( HARLEM ) black owned . One it’s NO AC or escalators why? U think it’s black owned it would be in better conditions than this, this is why ppl leave their community to go to others. Ac didn’t work from the lobby up to where ur just now crossing over to pass your ticket to the ticket lady. Sweating on this line for about 15 min. I’ll never come here again literally. I’m shocked magic johnson theater is even open this should’ve got shut down and turned into a venue location all JOKES ASIDE. It’s a Saturday and this location is like this fr ? DEFINITELY WAS GOING TO GO DOWNTOWN OR IPIC & SHOULD HAVE. Ghetttttto ! I wrote this review as I’m sitting 4:52pm no SLUSHIE . The theater don’t even show the movie times outside on bulletin board, just disgusting for this to be the ONE AND only in Harlem ! SHUT THIS DOWN ASAP.

adding on to the review from a few days ago (lianna replant), this person and another one were my friends who i went to the movie theaters with. we were planning on watching just one movie. when we got to the movie theater, we were told to go to auditorium three by an employee. when we went there, we were confused as it didn’t look like the movie we planned on watching, but we thought that our movie would play afterwards. then, when the credits finished, an employee, specifically a janitor, told us to leave. we were still confused, as we just wanted to watch our movie. we tried explaining our situation to them, but when we did, we were just told to leave again because the movie ended and they had to clean. we left that theater and stood outside for a while, wondering what to do since that theater clearly wasn’t ours. i would like to add here that the janitor employee said not to enter another movie theater if it’s not our movie. we went back to the entrance area and realized that we had to go to theater 6 instead of 3, so we went there. the movie was great, which is why i’m giving some stars, but again, the janitor employee came in and told us to leave. my friend told them that we were supposed to be watching this movie, and the employee said, “don’t go into other movie theaters.” when the movie finished, my friends and i left and were walking around a little bit. the janitor employee was standing outside and told us the exit was that way, which was where we were planning to go. obviously. my opinion on this experience was that it was utterly disappointing. never in my other movie theater experiences did i receive this much disrespect. it’s understandable to question why people are still in the theater after the credits end, but you have no right to keep on watching and being rude to them because of a misunderstanding. it also felt like they thought me and my friends were trying to scam amc theaters and watch multiple movies at once, which we weren’t. we were genuinely confused. and before you comment: yes, we realized that the tickets had the theater number on it. however, that does not justify the employee’s rude and inappropriate behavior. “they were just being straightforward!” you can be straightforward and not be rude. unfortunately, it felt like they were being both. overall, i hope you, amc theaters, can educate your employees on appropriate behaviors that do not involve customers feeling...

Worst movie theater experience ever. Visited magic johnson theater on 12 17 2018 at 420pm for the 505pm show. first of all I was short changed and given no receipt when I returned for my receipt to show the lady that I was short changed on my cash she agreed that she short changed me and then continued to rant that she'd didn't need my couple of extra dollar and proceeded to give me the additional cash. She then caught an attitude and informed me that now I had to pay for my one year old daughter (she probably steals a few dollars from each customer that pays cash and doesn't notice it .since I caught her she wanted to make things bad for me) . She then waited tell I got upstairs and called the ticket usher collecting the tickets to tell him too not to admit my family. I ask the speak to the manager and told him my daughter is under the age limit , she 22 months and will be sitting on my lap. Also I had just came there two weeks before and they didn't charge for her . I also informed him about the cashier giving me the incorrect change and keeping the rest and only being upset and making this a situation because I asked for my correct cash return to me. he then proceeded to tell me that either i pay for my daughter or he would refund me ,my wife ,and my son's ticket for Spider-Man into the spider verse. I accepted my refund and lefted . I don't know maybe he was in on it with the cashier , maybe he wasn't , maybe he just has poor customer relationship skills. which ever it is , i don't care everybody was rude from the cashier , ticket usher and gentleman claiming to be the manager . I think to pay $20 for parking , no free parking on street tell after 7pm, about $60 for tickets for a family of three and more than sixty dollar in snacks at theater concessions stand on average deserves better treatment then this . I've been to movie theaters with metal detectors around every exit and entrance that were more courteous , kind and respectful to they're moviegoers then magic Johnson .I will not be revisiting magic Johnson ever again in the future and neither should you . this is how they treat people in our own community and they want us to support them .also on another note AMC movie management personnel you should review your security tapes tapes at time given , if you believe any statements about this review to be false, because assure you...

I read the reviews on yelp about this Theater being completely horrible. Sadly I didn’t believe the warning I paid a month ago for two tickets to take my children to see Jurassic Park my movie started at 11:30 am My children and I were standing outside from 11:18 to 11:28in the hot sun. The employees were standing around and waited until 11:28 (2mins before my movie was to start) to open the theater which I feel is completely unacceptable how can you sell tickets for an 1130 show and not let people in until two minutes before the show then when I get inside I went to print out my tickets that I purchased a month ago online. I read on the side of my ticket where it stated that they had been sold out and I needed to go to the front for further instruction? They only have one employee working there in the box office in morning so I was standing there for another 10 minutes after the showtime because they let us in the theater late. only to receive confirmation that they sold my tickets I had purchased a month ago to priority seating and then I would have to come back for another time or day!!! when I ask for a refund I was told that they can only give it to me on a gift card because I didn’t have the credit card that it was purchased on which I feel is ridiculous because I purchased it online so why would I need to bring my card when I purchased online this doesn’t make sense I never purchased at the theater.

When I asked for the number to corporate the employee sitting at the front stated that he would give it to me but then when he gave me my refund back as a gift card because he couldn’t give it back to my card he did not give me the number to corporate and I had to Google it this theater is horrible if you’re going there with your children do not do it my children are extremely upset I got them dressed to take them to a movie that we ended up not seeing and had to stand outside for 10 minutes for nothing and then on a another line for 10 more mins to be told to go home . I will never return back to the theater. In my opinion they need to close it down it has so many bad reviews and going there for the first time myself I...
