Brooklyn Zoo & Aquarium Pet Store — Attraction in New York

I've been meaning to post for a long while but after today's events it's now necessary. I got my cat from here 10 months ago beautiful kitty about 3 months old at the time. I was told that she (Stella) was check out by the local vet and is in good health. They did also say to me not to let any doctors scare me about the scares in her eyes as she was born that way and is perfectly fine. It's my fault as that should have been a major red flag. First, imagine my surprise when I go to get her spayed (3 weeks later), I learn that she was actually a BOY!!! (change name to Luke). And that the cloudiness in his eyes should be a major cause for concern as it's a sign of possible blindness in the future or any other birth defect that'll cost me later. After examining him, my vet recommended I consider giving him back. But how could I?...I had grown attached and if the pet shop didn't even know he was a boy after supposedly getting him check out, would they even take good care of him??!!!. Obviously, I was lied to and couldn't return him to people who didn't look out for his well being. So I kept him and hoped for the best. Last week, he stopped using the bathroom and was immediately concern and took him back to the vet. Luke was severely backed up, his colon had stretched 3x its size and pushed his bladder to another position. affecting his ability to pee. After some testing, it was discovered he had major organ issues and developed a condition that affects many elderly cats. He's only A YEAR OLD!!!! Luke had been hospitalized for a week to help void his bowels and even to pee as he could no longer do that on his own. Today, I had to make the difficult decision to put him to sleep as he was in so much pain and had weaken so much he couldn't eat or walk. Jose is good, he is always friendly, happy and great with my dog best groomer ever. He is the only groomer that knows what he is doing. Ilana is beyond great, this store is nothing without her and her knowledge. The original store owner sold to his sister and she is clueless as to her own business, she can't keep staff or treat them with respect. She can't answer any questions whether it's about an animal or supplies. The new store owner very rude, unprofessional, she thinks everyone is a fool she makes prices up as she goes along she's ripping people off. Completely clueless, she cannot run the business. Ilana runs the show there, her knowledge is amazing and impeccable. You need anything ask Ilana she is honest and sincere. I AM GIVING 5 STARS ONLY BECAUSE OF ILANA otherwise it doesn't deserve not one star. WITHOUT ILANA THIS STORE IS NOTHING, the owner might as well close the store permanently.

Sweety, if Peter was the owner he would be there, the store would not be a mess. He is friendly and professional. Surely your upset because facts are facts. Don't get offended, I was a customer that dealt with you and endured how YOU overpriced me and how rude you are. How you handled the situation was extremely unprofessional. You surely have an attitude, poor customer service and your not a people person. I feel bad for those employees. i visited this place recently based on their google reviews which were very good. Which im assuming were reviews probably from the owners and family members of the stores, or maybe paid reviews because this place was  AWFUL. I should’ve checked yelp reviews first where they have 1 star and a half. BY FAR, AND I REALLY MEAN THIS, BY FAR THE WORST PET STORE I HAVE EVER BEEN TO.

I went here for the fish, because i have kept fish for years and i just wanted to check this place out and see what type of fish they had. and yup the type of fish they have are sick and dead fish! do yourself a favor DONT EVER visit this place. I will be reporting them for animal abuse.

I walked in and nobody even acknowledge me or i asked if i needed help and not because they were visit, they were all sitting right by the front door just having conversations and being very loud. Lets not even talk about that rude tall guy that works there. Im looking at a fish tank and he stands next to me reaching over my face to get something and didnt even say excuse me or ask if i needed help and when i asked if a fish that they had in the tank was a "Gourami" he said "Oh is that what they call them?" and walked away, like do you even know what type of fish you are selling? lol seriously disgusting.
