There are not too many places to do food shopping in this area. I find that the majority of food items are overpriced in this supermarket and if you rely on government assistance such as food stamps, you're not really able to stretch your dollars. You're better off going to the nearby Western Beef to shop, but to save and get a bigger bang for your buck avoid the stores in the Fordham area and shop outside the neighborhood. I moved to the area a few months ago and I'm not pleased with the local places to buy groceries.
UPDATE...UPDATE... Google asked me to update my info and NOTHING has changed about this supermarket! Still overpriced and the sale prices in the store flyer do not match what is scanned when you check out. I often have to bring to the cashier's attention the price discrepancy. Sometimes that results in someone physically having to walk over and verify what I am saying.. I can only imagine how many people are getting overcharged by this store. The selection in produce isn't that great and I have had to pick through wilted and discolored vegetables to buy. If you're willing to walk 9 blocks to Western Beef you'll have a better chance, but they too are overpriced on items as well..
UPDATE, UPDATE, UPDATE...8/5/22
PLEASE CAREFULLY EXAMINE THE BREAD BEFORE YOU BUY! THERE ARE MICE RUNNING AROUND THE STORE WHICH WAS CLEARLY INDICATED BY THE TEETH MARKS INTO THE LOAF OF BREAD I WAS ABOUT TO PURCHASE. ALSO CHECK FOR EXPIRATION DATES ON EVERYTHING! I'VE UPLOADED A RECENT PICTURE SHOWING THE...
Read moreThis place should be ashamed of themselves. Very racist! Always charges more for something that supposed to be on sale;(according to the sign they posted). The female “Rosa”, has an attitude!!!! I can pay for what I need; but, don’t put up a sign that says one thing and when I get to the register it’s another. And then get an attitude with me for pointing it out!!!! Oh!; and I have to mention all the “EXPIRED” items still on the shelf!!!! VERY RACIST; VERY RACIST!!!! Please 🙏 notice all good reviews are from the Spanish people they talk to……..I have to add these photos of a steak I spent close to $17 for; red on one side, got home to cook it (less than an hour). It was brown 🤢on the other side. The onions 🧅 are always, always, always ROTTEN on the inside. Salad mixes are expired. AND THE WORST THING OF ALL!!!!!! MEATS ARE MIXED. GOAT is MIXED WITH LAMB. NO GOOD!!! TWO DIFFERENT ANIMALS! When will someone do something about this...
Read moreAs someone who lives nearby, I really enjoy shopping at this supermarket. Right when you walk in, they check your bag and give you and your bag a number, which helps keep things organized. The cold foods and desserts are always fresh, with a wide variety to choose from. Plus, they have a coffee shop inside, which is a nice bonus! I’ve occasionally encountered some staff who seemed a bit unfriendly, especially if you don't speak Spanish, but I’ve found that a simple “please” and “thank you” usually goes a long way.
One of my favorite things is that you can sit down and eat after you’ve bought your food which is very convenient. Also, they don’t charge tax, so $1 really means $1. They accept EBT, OTC, and WIC. And best of all, they’re now open 24 hours! As someone who works night shifts, I’m really grateful for that kind of accessibility as many delis etc are closed when...
