I had an incredible experience with Anita Dongre NYC. Sonal Rathi, the manager of the store, is extremely professional, intelligent, and helpful. My first visit was in November, when I tried on different outfits for my wedding reception. Sonal took the time to give me advice and was honest about what would look best on me. I felt very happy with my experience and placed an order that day itself. This lehenga would be made from scratch for me - this was very exciting. I was informed that the lehenga would be ready in March 2022.

My second visit was in January, to pick out my wedding jewelry. Apeksha, one of the kind staff members, took a whole hour to help me try on various types of jewelry. I didn't feel rushed and felt like I was getting a personalized experience.

My third visit was to pick up the lehenga in February, which was ready a whole month early. This is rare, especially in the Indian designer clothing industry. I have always had to rush orders and still barely got them on the promised date. To get a custom made lehenga ~40 days early was an early wedding gift.

When I arrived, I was greeted as an old friend by all the staff. They were so helpful! Sonal helped me wear the lehenga and I felt so pleased with the way it fit. It was made-to-order, but it still fit way better than the other tailored pieces I will be wearing at my wedding. I felt like a princess!

Sonal asked me about what jewelry I was planning on wearing with my new lehenga, and I asked her for suggestions. She promptly brought out some of the most stunning jewelry pieces I have ever seen. After trying them all on, I picked an exquisite piece that complemented the lehenga.

One quick story that should tell you about the honesty and integrity of the brand: I was unsure whether to wear a maang tika at my reception and was ready to buy it from this store, just to see if I change my mind later on. Sonal told me that instead of making the sale, she was going to be honest and suggest I don't buy it. This way, I will look elegant and polished. My family and I were a little amazed that she didn't try to push the sale and felt even happier with all the things we did buy. Again, a lot of designer brands "force" you to buy complete sets and tell you that it'll look incomplete otherwise.

When you come to this store, rest assured, you will be treated like royalty and will want to keep coming back. If possible, try to work with Sonal - she will make sure that you look perfect. Sonal, Apeksha, and Ms....

The best shopping experience for Indian clothes in the area! Anita Dongre opening a shop in NYC was an absolute blessing for me as I was planning my wedding last year. I first visited during one of their opening parties, where I had a chance to preview three floors of eye candy and meet some of the friendly people who run the store. Sonal R., one of the store associates, is a gem. When I returned to shop for my wedding, Sonal was honest about made-to-measure timelines and stock from the start; she pulled and styled clothing I would never have thought to try on; and she made shopping here a pleasant experience. In the end, I bought a jacket I had bookmarked from their Instagram, and a lehnga that Sonal picked out (which I LOVED once she showed me the best way to wear it with confidence); plus two saris for my sister. I purchased my own clothing for 2 out of 6 wedding events here, and, in hindsight, I wish we had gotten everything done at Anita Dongre in NY! The other designers who come here with trunk shows ended up sending over clothes late and incorrectly-sized; Anita Dongre delivered everything on-time and correctly made-to-measure, and throughout the order and waiting process, Sonal kept in touch with me over Whatsapp. She was so on top of everything! In fact, we later came back to get my fiance's ceremony sherwani and a bandi from here because this store showed itself to be worthy of our dollars - I'm talking about being responsive and letting you know where your clothing is, without you having to follow up endlessly. Anita Dongre New York is the most gorgeous, elegant, sophisticated, well organised designer store with the sweetest and most polite staff.I was a bit sceptical after reading a few negative reviews so I called the store well in advance to discuss the entire process. Right from Krishna helping with all my questions over calls to and to all the staff at the store on my visit.Special shout out to Krishna again for being so patient, informative and helpful and not an aggressive seller as she let me try almost 15 outfits and draped me for each of them,I didn’t feel pushed to buy anything and it really gave me time to think and made the whole process so smooth.I was so impressed to know so much about the designer which I had absolutely no idea about, the whole staff was very courteous and welcoming.Everyone in my family loved all the outfits and how beautifully they were crafted.

As for those who felt a lack of customer service or any such issues it is important to understand that this is a designer store and it may get busy during certain seasons as the staff may be preoccupied with work and other clients who have visited by prior appointment so one must be patient and co operative.

Coming to the prices: Of course it’s on the higher side. And it is rightly so because Each piece is painstakingly handcrafted for quality purposes and uniqueness. The man hours for this kind of work are very high. The artisans are from authentic rural parts of the country who’s work cannot be even remotely compared to large scale garment manufacturers.
