I am a G-Shock fan; in particular the JDM G-Shocks such as the GW-5000-1JF, and the MIJ G-Shocks in the MT-G / MR-G lineup. You could say that I like G-Shocks that are both tough and top-shelf. I went in to look at various MT-G G-Shocks; in particular the MT-G S1000 series in black. I was attended to by Chris and Levi of the store, and I was shown not only the watch I was interested in, but other MT-G watchs in the G1000 lineup as well. For those not in the know, the primary difference between MTG S and MTG G is that G has GPS time abilities and a dedicated LED backlit whereas the S line saves a few dollars by relying solely on atomic time and its light comes from stored daylight rather than a dedicated LED. Rather than try and arbitrarily sell me on the more expensive MT-G G series; or the MR-G (which are EVEN more expensive), both Chris and Levi explained how the MT-G S is a more realistic and cost-effective option while maintaining the Japanese quality of Casio's premium G-Shocks as well as staying in a purely analogue domain.
In contrast, my experiences with the other Major Casio G-Shock Boutique reseller, Tourneau, has been the polar opposite. Tourneau's employees favor the "well dressed" over anything else, putting outward image over who actually desires the watches. One could be very capable of buying a nice MT-G or MR-G or other Japanese-Made G-Shock and be ignored on the basis of "no suit and tie" or other fancy dress; the G-Shock store is aware that outward appearance is not always a barometer of actual wealth. This is why I will continue to go to the G-Shock store; their service towards not only G-Shock aficionados, but the general public is par excellence. I do see an MT-G in my near future, and G-Shock SOHO is going to be the place that earns...
Read moreWe were treated like garbage by the store clerk in this SOHO store location earlier today. We were the first customers for the day and we waited for the stores to open so we can purchse the limited edition transformers g-shock as a present for the holidays. But no one prepared us on how rude we were treated by the store clerk named Levi. He did not even say good morning to us when we walked the store and he was hanging outside the g-shock store. We thought the store was empty, but the clerk is guarding the whole store from the sidewalk. Everytime we ask the product he answers with sarcasm without even a sight of enthusiasm. When we decided to purchase the watch, he did not even help us open the package box enclosing the original boxed product to show what was in the box. I was on the floor of the opening the package box, and my wife said that we needed help opening the box. The store clerk didn’t even look at me when he handed me a pair of tweezers to open the box nor offered a flat table for us to open the box. Casio/G-shock should do...
Read moreSo I love G shocks. I got my first one when I was 13 years old and for the past 16 years I have been supporting the brand. Yesterday I went to check out a few pieces, as I have never actually been to a G shock store before. I love the set up and the location of the place. Simple but captures the durable and simple feel of the G shock brand.
However, when I walked in, there was an employee just kind of lounging around on his phone. I asked a few questions about a particular piece and he was a bit condescending and dismissive. I was instantly turned off and almost considered leaving the store. But then another employee came from their stock room and I posed the same question to him. He was extremely attentive and knowledgeable about the product.
I think I'll stick to purchasing the brand via Macys and online though, as I don't want in store experiences to tarnish the good image I have of G shock.
In any case, heres the piece I purchased. Wearing it as I type this and I absolutely love it. Product good....
