So with an heavy heart and disappointment, unfortunately I have to give pier 76 just the worst customer service review. Being a Staten Island native in the north shore I have ordered and frequent pier my son has grown up here. My family that frequently visits internationally and domestically, this is my go to place to give them a great taste of Staten Italy and never disappoints with the food; I literally was here a week ago with family and ordered the calamari and pizza (artichoke and meat lovers) which they absolutely loved and the bartender was just great. However I ORDERED food for delivery (which is done often and the usual few items) consisting of shrimp parmigiana (served with only 4 medium GRILLED SHRIMP in marinara and penne, NO CHEESE) calamari (súper over cooked with no marinara) And an arugula salad with over cooked grilled chicken for a total of $67 plus tip $75. So I called to ask how they served the shrimp parm (which I’ve ordered many times and I know comes FRIED WITH JUMBO SHRIMP, SAUCE, CHEESE AND THE PASTA IN A SEPARATE PLATE) because maybe they’re short staffed and made the order wrong, whatever. The girl who answers the phone gave me, “oh thats how the owner makes it, I don’t know what to tell you” when I asked for the manager after 10 min on hold (I’m sure explaining) CAITLEN said you have to request fried shrimp parm ( imagine that shrimp parmigiana not fried and no mozzarella) and I’ll refund you on 5th missing shrimp for you next order and hung up. I mean if I’m a first timer or the 100 timer you need to do better. In Staten Island thats part of the key to success consistency and client satisfaction.

As part of my five-borough pizza challenge, I made my way to Pier 76 in Staten Island, eager to experience what many had praised as some of the city’s finest pizza. Located just a stone’s throw from the Staten Island Ferry, the restaurant boasts a warm and intimate atmosphere, making it a popular spot for both locals and tourists. The staff, though clearly busy with the influx of pizza challenge participants, remained friendly and attentive, which I appreciated. I ordered a slice, anticipating the thin-crust delight that Pier 76 is known for. Visually, the pizza was appealing, with a generous layer of cheese and a crisp crust. However, the taste left much to be desired. The cheese was overly stringy and chewy, detracting from the overall flavor. The sauce was average at best, lacking the depth and zest found in some of the city’s other renowned pizzerias. While I generally appreciate thin crusts, this one was overly thin and excessively crispy, reminiscent of cardboard, which was quite disappointing. Reflecting on my visit, while the pizza did not meet my expectations, the friendly service was a redeeming aspect. Given the distance from the City, I don’t anticipate returning in the future.

The perfect rating is a must simply because of the marriage between price point and quality. The regular cheese pie at Pier 76 is top notch taste and Monday through Thursday there’s a $10 pie special ($10.99 with tax). The thin crust, the cheese, and the sauce all high-grade. It’s an unbelievable deal, the $10 special, and that’s what I always get and that’s why I’m giving 5 stars. There’s two other pizza places on Staten Island that really impressed me: one, Paulie’s on Bay St, is out of business. The other one, the well known Joe & Pat’s, is very good but rates slightly lower than P76. P76 has better location too, right across from ferry. And J&P weekday special is $2 more. And last but not least—the sauce—sauce, I feel, gets overlooked when it comes to pizza, but that’s what really separates ok pizza from great pizza. P76 pie has good sauce! I’ve also tried the calamari once and I would get it again; I enjoyed it, however, the calamari costs more than a pie and I pretty much plan to keep spending $10.99 for a great pizza as long as I can!

This is a new place that opened not too long ago that serves a pizza type very common in SI: thin, cracker crust pizza. Its got a great location not far from the ferry, its decor are classic, and the people working here are nice and hard working like most of the good pizza places in Staten Island. Furthermore, this place was opened by a former employee of Joe & Pat's, which is another older pizza place of the same type. While this is definitely solid pizza, I have to give the nod to the original. Like Joe & Pat's, the crust is cracker thin with no rise to it, with a bright, flavorful tomato sauce and good cheese. The main difference here is that Joe & Pat's is more balanced. They used too much mozzarella here, and even though it was good quality, I much would've preferred more of the delicious tomato sauce. Also the crust here was not as firm as the original, but this was minor even though it was the result of there being less char. These are two very similar pies, but you have to know how to make your individual ingredients shine as well as the whole; I think Joe & Pat's did a better job in this regard. However, I'm sure some will disagree as my issues are somewhat subjective, and besides that this is still solid pizza that's unique and well worth a short walk...
