This is a cute place with a decent amount of tables and a bar area. Parking on the street was hard to find.
There is a fall menu but they didn’t print it out, you have to go online.
They have two single bathrooms and one was out of order for most of the night so I had to wait for like 20 min to use the bathroom.
Food was very good, most of what we ordered i liked a lot. In general prices a little bit more expensive than I thought they should be. Also our second round of drinks took 35 minutes to get to us. Apparently the bartender was on a break. Which is fine, they should take breaks but I’m surprised there was no one else that can make the drinks when the bartender is on a break at peak time on a Friday night.
We were 4 people, ordered 6 tapas, one entree and two desserts to share and 2 rounds of drinks. It all came out to about 150 a couple.
My favorite was the chorizo tapas. It was warm chorizo with cheese and sauce served hot. Very good. We got a cheese plate too but the chorizo on that plate was soft and powdery textured and cold. I also didn’t like the cheese on that plate or the other meats. But I did like the big green grapes.
The meatballs on the special menu were very good, soft and flavorful. The chicken empanadas were my favorite. Normal sized empanada, about $4.50 each. Super crispy and flavorful. Moist and delicious. Some pieces of the chicken were chewy but most were really good.
The short rib entree was cooked perfectly. Super soft and tender. A bit too salty. Piled high, good portion and also a big serving of pasta with it.
Drinks were standout. I like the salted caramel espresso martini the best. So smooth and rich in flavor. Really tasted like salted caramel. Also the pumpkin spice martini was delicious. It was light and smooth and creamy all at the same time, and the fall spices were not over powering. For the salted caramel espresso martini when we ordered the second round we noticed the chunk of caramel garnish was left off. They said they ran out but later brought us a couple of pieces. The cannoli dip dessert was super big and great to share. The dip wasn’t too sweet but it was a bit too whipped for me and lacked a rich marscapone cheese flavor which I usually expect from cannoli cream.
We left stuffed! I don’t know if I would come back again. But we definitely enjoyed our...
Read morePLEASE DO NOT CONFUSE THIS PLACE WITH BESOS (THIS IS BESO, NO "S"). BESOS is on Corson Ave and is not in the same class as this place. The place on Corson should not be allowed to use the name, being so close. With that being said.....
I can't say enough about this place. I was at the old spot before they moved, a few times. My only complaint about that spot was it was too tight and dark. They corrected both of those things in this new location.
The decor is absolutely beautiful. Whoever designed it needs to design more restaurants on Staten Island.
The atmosphere was excellent. Every interaction with any of the staff was positive and they all had smiles on their faces.
All the food was delicious, from the wings, to several of the tapas dishes we ordered as appetizers, to the entrees. The Sangria was great, just as it was in the old spot. The mojitos were on point, not too sweet, not too much fizz.
We took desserts home because there was just no more room in our bellies at the time. The desserts were also delicious, later that night at home with coffee.
I believe our server's name was Byron (if I heard correctly); he did a wonderful job and represented the Beso brand properly.
Please go here. Eat and drink well. Do not go with the thoughts of any penny-pinching, as you will want to taste everything. They aren't too expensive; in fact the prices are competitive with the other restaurants they own (Bayou and Blue). In my opinion (and we eat out often, especially on SI) this is not only the best of the three I just mentioned but might just be the best restaurant in SI.
Definitely 5 stars. We will...
Read moreLast night myself and two friends finally got to the new BESO on Bay St in St.George…and it won’t be long before we return! Excellent on EVERY level (pun intended…as it is a maze of stairs and well appointed rooms) this will be a RAVE REVIEW! We sat upstairs in what I would call the Moroccan Room…five tables, spread just far enough apart to feel a nice homey restaurant atmosphere yet in complete privacy! Drinks arrived promptly and bread and olives gave us just enough sustenance to order and await our food. We didn’t have to wait long. We all selected items from a $49 Pre-Fixe which included appetizers, main course, dessert and coffee! What to order? A unique menu that jumps off the page at you! I had the most tender and delicious calamari I’ve ever had…and a seafood/avocado w/tequila and lime served over penne pasta. WOW! Dessert wasn’t your run of the mill pre-fixe items but instead high end confectionery creations…as good to look at as they were to eat. We ordered three different kinds so got to taste a quarter of all that was offered! Delicious! I might add that service was impeccable throughout the entire meal and we were even paid a visit by the head chef, Juan Garcia. Julian Gaxholi who also owns and manages Bayou and Blue moved Beso to this new location a few months back and it was a smart decision. I can’t wait to see what he puts in the old location of Beso! But for now TRY the new BESO…you...
