As a pregnant woman with over a decade of experience as a personal trainer and fitness coach for a globally recognized company, I was deeply disappointed by my experience at Bodyrok New York in Union Square.
Despite having full medical clearance from both my OB-GYN and midwife—complete with written certification—I was not allowed to participate in the Pilates class I had booked. There is absolutely no mention on Bodyrok’s official website that pregnant clients are not permitted to join classes, which is misleading. I planned my day around this workout, since I was just visiting from Europe on my way to Texas, only to be turned away.
When I arrived at 3 PM, the studio was still closed, even though that’s listed as their opening time. About 10 minutes later, the front desk staff arrived and opened the studio, but both she and the instructor were noticeably unfriendly—no greeting, no smile, just cold indifference.
After I had already set up on the reformer, the coach approached me with clear annoyance to say I wasn’t allowed to participate simply because I’m pregnant. I calmly explained that I am not a beginner, that I’m also a certified Pilates instructor, and fully capable of modifying exercises for my condition. Still, I was dismissed without any willingness to engage in a conversation or assess my capabilities.
The only positive part of my experience was speaking with the manager, Chris W., who was polite, understanding, and able to clearly explain the studio’s policy. He also ensured I received a refund, which I appreciated.
Overall, this was a frustrating and unpleasant experience. I can’t speak to the quality of the actual class, as I wasn’t allowed to participate, but based on the attitude of the staff and the lack of transparency around studio policies, I won’t be returning—and wouldn’t recommend it to others, especially those with specific needs...
Read moreBody Rok Pilates has completely transformed my fitness journey! I initially discovered them through their incredible unlimited month free trial promo (seriously, what a gem of a deal), and I'm so glad I did. From day one, I was amazed by how challenging yet rewarding these classes are.
The reformer-based workouts are unlike anything else I've experienced - they manage to build serious strength while maintaining that signature Pilates focus on form and control. As someone who also attends Form50, I was intrigued to learn that their founder was actually a Body Rok enthusiast, which speaks volumes about the quality of their programming.
What sets Body Rok apart is how they combine traditional Pilates principles with modern fitness techniques to create workouts that truly deliver results. I've noticed significant improvements in my core strength, posture, and overall muscle definition. The instructors are incredibly knowledgeable and attentive, ensuring proper form while pushing you to your limits.
The class atmosphere is welcoming yet motivating, and the facilities are well-maintained with top-notch equipment. I went from skeptical newcomer to complete convert - my body feels stronger, longer, and more balanced than ever before.
If you're on the fence, take advantage of their free trial month. Trust me, you'll be hooked by the results you see and feel. Body Rok has earned a permanent spot in my fitness routine, and I couldn't recommend it more...
Read moreLongtime lagree/mega former girl here. I’ve done solidcore, SLT, Form50, etc… Really wanted to like BodyRok but had a few real concerns. First and main concern was the lack of safety strap on the machine! My entire class took place on the back platform and there is NO SAFETY STRAP like at other studios even though there is a safety trap on the front platform! People around me were either falling off (potentially really really injuring themselves!) their machines or not doing exercises correctly to avoid falling. Really unsafe, and I don’t understand why they wouldnt have a safety strap on both
Second, the studio was kind of falling apart. Drywall holes in the wall and ceiling plus a really staticky speaker right above me which made the music throughout class unenjoyable. If the workout had been incredible I would’ve given this a pass.
Finally, this could be personal preference but there are no assigned machines which means the instructor does not know who you are. She didn’t call out anyone by name or give any corrections which just seemed a little odd to me. You had no idea whether you were doing exercises correctly! (Spoiler alert… people weren’t because they were trying not to break their necks falling off...
