My husband and I honestly took over a month to decide which restaurant did we want to go for my birthday dinner and between Resy where I had Global Dining Access as an American Express Platinum card holder and Open Table, I initially had my priority notify set for certain restaurants (Cote for example!) but just couldn't get in. Hence this was our runner up decision and we had my birthday dinner here last Saturday the 23rd at 9:30 PM.
Now it's important to actually note and fill in that special request if you're celebrating a special occasion so we did put birthday and did request for a great table. I'd say this was where the experience really fell through. Whoever chose and seated us must be power tripping because they placed us literally by the table where all the servers comes out with food and drinks and where people would head off to for the rest room. Not even a nice booth like our proper steakhouse experiences in Vegas. My husband and I were seated across each other, super close to the other table where we could hear everything that they're talking about despite the music. My husband's back was literally touched upon more than 50 times. Very annoying. We've never had this experience in any restaurant. You would think on a special occasion request, they would note, choose a nice spot and sit us properly but I guess they don't even care and read special requests. Very sad.
I personally feel that this is 3-3.5 rating because of the overall dismal experience with the seating. The redeeming factor really was the food (except for the crab cake) and the service from Amanda who was really wonderful to us despite eventually attending to a massive group later that night.
The crab cake was flat and almost bland (unsure if we got a bad one), we each both got the dry aged rib eye at $63 each (medium and medium rare, the former cooked medium rare and the latter was done correctly) and thought we'd try the black truffle spinach (good and really rich) and the mac and cheese (one of the better ones we've tried). Had 2 glasses of Moet champagne and a Cab Sauv for my husband. Then we ordered the 24 layer chocolate cake for a birthday cake picture but we took it home due to the fact that we were quite full. I wasn't even able to finish my steak. Note that there wasn't anything complimentary birthday anything offered here.
I really wish I could say it was the very best birthday dinner. I certainly hoped and was so looking forward to it. But whoever is in charge of customer experience, either fell short or just didn't pay enough attention. We love fine dining and don't mind paying serious cash if it's absolutely worth it and we're spoiled with the plethora of restaurant options living here. After paying $330+ $20% tip after, unsure if we'll come back. I seriously wish...
Read moreCame here a few weeks ago and had an interesting experience. A few quick things. The décor was kind of old school - lots of wood and leather. The decision was a wall to wall play on its name making you wonder if this was originally located in Times Square. And red. Lots of red. As in red light district or Chinese New Year. The service was terrific - the waiter, John, was attentive, informed, and engaging. The drinks were very good and you could tell (partly from these prices) that they weren't going to be your grandma's old fashioned. Except it kind of was, but with a very modern focus on craftsmanship. My self-designated whiskey expert friend claimed this was the best one he's ever had! My sangria (I know, why at a steak house?) was pretty delicious given some of their enhancements. Before we ordered, we were served a complimentary amuse-bouche of a cold pea soup shot. It was really good and so our hopes were high for the rest of our meal. We shared the PH for 2 with a side of goose fat fried potatoes (because any amount of research will tell you that this is required here). Steak for two is tough if you don't share the same doneness preference. Buddy likes medium rare where I'm a medium erred on the side of medium well (sorry, I also ordered sangria remember?) We split the difference and ordered medium. What we got was more medium rare I'd say. Plus, the steak was surprisingly gristly. The potatoes were good but I must be getting old since consuming all that fat was becoming challenging. We passed on dessert but they knew from the reservation it was my birthday so they brought out a plate with a candle on it. Strange but appreciated. Then came the bill. My buddy was studying it far longer than normal. Turns out there was a service charge on it, but not 15%. Strange since it was just the two of us. When we asked our waiter, he brought the manager out. She basically explained that a) the restaurant is party of the Landry group and b) since back of the house kitchen workers didn't share the tips, this was a way to pay them more without raising food prices. Evidently corporate had just rolled this out and the manager herself had recently learned about this tactic. Given that it wasn't mentioned anywhere or by anyone, she understood our issue with it and was apologetic and happy to adjust our bill accordingly. This is a bad idea and rolled out wrong (travel ban, anyone?) My friend would come back just for the drinks. I think I'm...
Read moreThey walked by me for several minutes before the nice waiter finally greeted me. Was about to walk out and spend my money elsewhere but he was so warm and welcoming. The lady who seemed to be in charge treated me as if I was going to dine and dash. Wouldn’t let me sit outside with all the other guests so I sat inside (I had left my wallet at home and was awaiting my boyfriend to come with it) (all the non POC were treated way better) As a woman of color I’m sad to say I’m used to this type of treatment, today I simply wanted to spend some money on myself at an expensive restaurant after getting a good bonus payment. Could have done without the profiling that seemed awfully racially motivated.
Side note: I love how they play all black artist music but have barely a drop of color in their staff or customer base ... ^@^/
Edit2: I found myself narrating my moves because I realized the last was watching me while I was enjoying my catch of the day. My boyfriend finally arrived outside so I asked the waiter if I could go get my wallet(assuring him I’d be back by leaving my phone, jacket, and expensive headphones on the table) he seemed to not be worried but as soon as I came back in with my wallet the lady popped out of nowhere to “take my payment”. She had no indication that I was done or anything. I also noticed that there were cops outside (to which my boyfriend said one of the wait staff was pointing indoors to indicate someone). I may be paranoid but they didn’t order Or pickup any food and I was the only guest indoors at the time. I gave the lady my debit card and immediately left. They were ridiculously expensive, the steak was sub par in flavor and not cooked as requested. $55 (Asked for medium rare, it was simply pink which led to my boyfriend feeling sick after eating it.) my catch of the day was absolutely amazing but realistically not worth $42. My overall bill with tip came out to $179. I’m happy I treated myself but am likely not to do...
