I have to say the store is lovely, color coordinated you always find great items. Prices have gone up over the years but still fairly good based on items in comparison to full retail for some of the higher end pieces. Employees are friendly enough. This critique is going towards their buying process and how inconsistent it seems to be.
When the store first opened I used to take my items to sell and the buyers they seemed very knowledgeable and well educated with true vintage pieces as well as current trends, & designers. They were all very well rounded and confident in their process and what they were doing. Sadly as the years have passed by that has significantly declined.
I agree with another review I saw about pricing and buying being inconsistent and how it differs significantly depending on whoās buying from you. A few times I encountered buyers who seemed very lacking in confidence and knowledge constantly needing a second opinion from other staff on if they should buy almost every single piece.
It seems there is either a lack of proper training or inconsistency in education. Iām a buyer myself and I worked in an environment just like this for my first buying job for many years and I can tell you many of these buyers are buying based on their own personal tastes and biases which doesnāt make for a good buyer or decisions.
When buying youāre not specifically shopping for yourself & you need to really fashion forecast, study, observe & take into consideration what your customers are asking, looking for and wearing, the neighborhood demographic. Observe the shoppers and your surrounding areas, look at street fashion around you.Learn who your customers are and be open to variety and diversity of fashion as well as current trends. Consider fashion & function where your greatest needs are. Ask yourself do I have a customer for this? There needs to be a foresight for fashion that goes beyond your own personal tastes or likes. Like a mental mood board of visuals and this also requires a love and passion for fashion. If someone is just doing this job strictly for the paycheck alone and in reality doesnāt care for fashion or any of this they will never truly be good at it or enjoy the process.
I get it, itās a lot and they still have to be quite selective depending on current inventory needs but donāt alienate the rest of your customers based on just trends alone not every customer is in their teens and early twenties who just wants to wear the same 90s and Y2k stuff you see over and over.
I would like to compliment this location though & will say they are one of the few second hand resale retail shops that consistently carries amazing plus size pieces, great styles and variety particularly this location in Bushwick. I do enjoy shopping...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreAfter just missing the selling cut-off at the Williamsburg location by only 5 min after 7pm, the staff sent me to the Bushwick location since they said they are open later til 9pm and buy until 8pm! But unfortunately that was not true! When I got to the Bushwick location just a few minutes before 8pm, (which is what I was told was the cut-off time) Rosie said they stopped buying for the day. I was pretty upset since I rushed all the way over there from the wburg location on my bicycle with two very heavy bags full of clothes on my handle bars to make it there before 8pm, which is the time the staff in wburg told me they buy til. Rosie said they stop buying at around 7:30 since the entire buying process has to be done before 8pm. So I was misinformed by the staff at the Williamsburg location when they said I can sell my clothes there til 8pm. Probably because the cut off time they take your clothes to sell, at their location in wburg is exactly 7pm, one hour before their store closes. So Iām assuming they probably thought it was the same in Bushwick! Well they were wrong! However, Charlie came over and said he will take my clothes anyway after he heard what had happened. Thank you Charlie and Rosie for being so accommodating! I really appreciate you guys helping me out and my trip there was not a total waste of time! Iām so glad I went to the Bushwick location for the first time, even though I barely made it! I Ended up selling a bunch of my clothes I donāt wear anymore and used the credit to get a few new cute tops and dresses that I will wear! Although they did shut the lights off on me while I was in the dressing room at 8:49 without saying anything, which was obviously a hint to get out. After the nice young guy who was at the entrance of the fitting room told me at 8:45 that I had 15 min left and I told him I will be done in 5 min. I was just putting my clothes back on when they shut the lights off 4 min later. So I thought that was very weird. Never had that happen to me at any fitting room at any clothing store before. Anyway, REDUCE, REUSE, RESELL, and RECYCLE CLOTHING and the world will be a better place!! Just Remember, the Selling cut-off is 7pm at the Williamsburg Location and 7:30pm at the Bushwick Location! I Love Other Peoples Clothing! I canāt recommend it enough! One of the best buy, sell and trade stores in Brooklyn and all of NYC! Super friendly Staff and everything is well organized and clean! Check out their New location in Williamsburg too, itās HUGE with lots of cute stuff!!! And Ashley is the...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIāve been a customer of this location and I have some great pieces to show for it. Today was my first experience as a seller, and Iāll never be coming back. Honestly very upsetting experience.
Iām very experienced with selling to second-hand shops, Iāve been doing it for years, in many places many times, when Iām too busy to sell online. So, when asked if I had experience with standard policies, I said yes. I probably shouldāve listened more carefully when OPCās policy was explained, because it isnāt one Iāve seen before and I hope I donāt see it again. I understand the process of leaving items to be sorted and coming back later for a lump sum in exchange, therefore leaving staff unable to tell you how each item was individually priced, for how much, why, etc. Thatās all fine. But here, instead of receiving an offer, your items are already placed out on the floor when you come back with no option to get them back unless you BUY them back. No matter how absurd the appraisal is, theyāre apparently already property of the store, and you donāt even get a ātake it or leave itā option.
I left two bags there today to be sold. Included in that were two pairs of NIB designer boots and a rare pair of new, unworn Balenciaga sneakers (bought from TRR, authenticated again at 2nd Street, listings occasionally popping up online for $1k+). Iām no stranger to being lowballed or having clothes turned away. It doesnāt bother me, I understand this business. But coming back a few hours later to $80 for everything was mindboggling. I have no idea what happened, but I was told that everything was already out on the floor, that there was no way to ātell if what I say I had was actually mine anywayā (despite me going straight to the counter without browsing), and that there was nothing to be done about it. I ended up using most of my credit to BUY BACK MY OWN SNEAKERS (which thankfully were insanely underpriced) and walking away with $30. I didnāt even look for the boots, I really didnāt want to know how terribly mispriced they were.
The person at the register, who was working security earlier, was kind and helpful in helping me find the sneakers. Thatās the only good thing I can say about any of this.
For whoever owns this place: You have a staffing problem, and Iām SURE youāre losing a lot of money because of it. If your buyers canāt identify anything other than Marc Jacobs, then youāre not just alienating sellers, youāre also fleecing YOURSELF on potentially...
