The Food Emporium — Attraction in New York

I’ve been coming here for years and often. Strike one was the security guard making a pass at my girl. I let it go. She’s pretty. Strike 2 and 3…sub par produce and after being a regular, one random evening the security guard starts following me around along with other employees trying to watch from a distance on each aisle. I know many people come in and out so it may not be easy to remember me but I come here at least every other week. And when it was time for me to check out, three employees “discreetly” stood near the door to make sure I didn’t run off with anything. It was such a ridiculous profiling situation I almost just put the grocery basket on the ground and walked out. I won’t be coming here anymore. Customer service is lacking. A few months ago, I bought rotten bacon that was slimy when I opened it and they acted like I was crazy for wanting a refund when I returned with my receipt the next day. Today, they got irritated about me trying to return an item that I had a receipt for and tried to give me less money than I was owed in return !!!

I also completely agree with the prior comments about racial profiling in this store. On top of the frequently rotten produce, the customer service leaves much to be desired. I’m glad the new supermarket opened down the street, close to the bridge. Much cleaner and fresher...

I placed an order at the deli yesterday and the deli worker was very rude, saying “I’m going to put a sign here that says order the cold-cut meats before the cheese” I looked at him confused, at first I thought he was joking but noticed he was serious so I asked why? And he said oh because then I have to clean the machine again if not then your cold-cut meat will have cheese. I’m sorry but isn’t that your job?
