BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir — Attraction in North Bergen

Visiting this temple felt like stepping into another world. Built entirely of stone without a single piece of steel or concrete it’s a living masterpiece of devotion and craftsmanship. Twelve years of work, 12.500 volunteers from around the globe and 2 million cubic feet of hand-carved limestone, marble, granite and sandstone sourced from India, Turkey, Italy and Bolivia.

Every detail is pure artistry, no lasers, no shortcuts, only human hands shaping over 10.000 statues and figures. What I love most is how East meets West here. It blends timeless Hindu nāgara architecture with modern engineering creating a sanctuary that feels eternal designed to last for millennia. Beautiful temple in NJ that's is definately worth a trip! Free to enter at all times. If you decide to go on the weekend or during a holiday, make sure to make reservations. They are also closed every Tuesday. They do have a dress code so be sure to adhere to that to show respect. Nothing overly revealing, no shorts/dresses above the knees, no tank tops. Be sure to wear socks as if you decide to go inside one of the temples, you are required to remove your shoes.

Plan for a few hours here, especially if you want to take pictures. Staff are very friendly and helpful. There is a café located inside along with a grocery store...

Travelled from Chicago to NJ to see this temple. Website was showing its open from 4pm to 8pm but when we reached there at 4:30 the website was showing updated time and it closed at 4:30pm. I called the given number asking for reason, guess what could be the reason??? Temple is closed due to PRIVATE event!!!. This is first temple in the world closing for a private events. What a SHAME!! They don't have private hall to have private event? Just because of PRIVATE even want to close...
