Guns used to be the go to place for quick lunch BBQ. They were never the best BBQ in the city, but their quick service (even on a busy Friday) always made up for that.
Now that their new location is open, they have COMPLETELY changed their setup, and NOT IN A GOOD WAY. You now are seated upon entering and it now your typical sit down style place where a waiter takes your order, etc...
We were seated at 12:05, and placed our orders shortly thereafter (all being regulars, we knew what we wanted). At 12:40, we were informed our food would be coming out shortly, however, we requested to have it boxed and also requested out checks, as we needed to be on our way. At 12:52, we finally received our food, in a box, so that we could take it with us.
Even at a Steakhouse, it does not take this long to get your food, and all four of us ordered BBQ Pork Sandwiches, the main ingredient of which is prepared WELL in advance.
Our waitress was unapologetic about our delay.
The food was comparable to how it used to be, and the decor is nice enough, however, the speed was always the appeal, and this they have utterly and completely lost.
Unfortunately, we were not the exception, looking around the new (large) dining room, it was easy to tell the majority of the patrons were dissatisfied with the change in structure and delay in receiving their food. I witnessed patrons at two other tables also have to request their food be boxed to go before ever having received it.
I urge the owner's to return to their old structure of ordering and payment, as it is much more efficient, otherwise I fear they will lose a majority of their business.
I will not be returning, and will be spreading the word to others than Guns' should be avoided now unless you have a few...
Read moreCustomer service here is tolerable at best and horrendous at its worst. Their burnt ends are good, but everything else is pretty average. My family had been coming here fairly often for BBQ, as a select few items are very good, it is usually pretty empty so it's quick, and it is a convenient BBQ place north of the river. Unfortunately, after tonight, we will not be back. As we began ordering our food, my special needs brother asked if he could order chicken nuggets from the kid's menu as he did not like BBQ. Our waitress said no, so we asked to speak with the manager. The manager also said no, and pointed out in a brash way that the menu clearly stated it was only for children 10 and under. We said we understood, and asked if it would be possible to make an adult portion and charge us double, as the price was not the issue at hand, to which the manager again said no, without much (any) reasoning. We decided to leave, and asked if we needed to pay for our drinks. The manager said no, which made little sense in that she had the ability to comp over $10 worth of drinks (6 people), yet refused to allow someone over 10 to order chicken nuggets, even after we offered to pay more just so my brother would be able to eat something. We pointed out the irony of the situation, but I got the impression that went over her head. We paid for the drinks regardless, and ended up going to another local KC restaurant with much better service and had a great time. Not only did Smoking Guns miss out on the $100 we would have spent there tonight, they will also miss out on our future business. The current manager may need to rethink her...
Read moreI came here with a co-worker on a Wednesday afternoon at 6pm and there was one other table seated, so it was a bit surprising that a Guy Fieri recommended restaurant was this quiet at dinner time.
We tried the wings as an appetizer, which were very good. They were naked wings, so they lacked crispness but the dry rub on them was tasty.
I ordered the Guy Fieri plate (pictured above), which was an obscene amount of food. It comes with 3 meats: Turkey, Burnt ends, and Brisket. It also comes with 3 sides, cornbread and pickles.
Everything was pretty tasty, I do wish however that the Turkey and Brisket did not come pre-sliced as larger chunks let you taste how tender the meat actually is. The burnt ends were ok. The sauces were mediocre as well. The macaroni and cheese bites were the best thing that I ate by far.
My colleague tried the sausage (which I was not a huge fan of...too much fennel for an Italian sausage, tasted more like a Sicilian which should be charred rather than smoked), but the fried green beans were delicious as well.
All in all it was good, but not incredible. The stafd was friendly and helpful when asked questions. I would come back and try other things...
