Our first visit here. The location of the Nellie Littlefield Inn couldn't be better. It is walking distance to everything, including the town's beautiful beach. ||However... although from a distance the property seems picture-perfect, it desperately needs attention. The outside of the building has peeling paint all over, making the building look old, shabby, and not well maintained. ||Our room was so small, two people could barely walk around the bed. The bed was comfortable... great mattress... BUT a four poster bed in such a small room was a very misguided design choice. It overtook the entire room. And one of the foot posts was directly in the middle of the tv screen. TV? Very low end, with few channels. The ceiling of the bedroom had large water stains (from the bedroom above) in several places. And one wall of our bedroom clearly showed the stains and peeling wallpaper one sees after leaks from above. ||The tiny porch off the room was dirty, with peeling paint all over. We had to clean the porch before we could sit. And the wooden railings there were rotting, and pulling away from the vertical structural column. God forbid anyone leaned against that railing. ||I was disappointed there were no social gatherings scheduled. In most other "Inns" I've been to, they schedule a time, let's say 5.00pm, for all guests to join together in the living area for a glass of wine, or sherry if they choose. Nothing like that here at Nellie's. ||We were also disappointed that the "Inn Keeper" is only there until 5.00pm in the afternoon... afterward, there is no one there to help or assist the guests. You are on your own. God forbid there is an emergency... you have to call the 800 number and wait for someone to call the "Inn Keeper" at her home for assistance. ||Breakfast... was a similar disappointment. There is no buffet offered, or anything like that... rather you are given a 'picnic basket' with plates, flatware, a breakfast sandwich, pastry, and a half of grapefruit. Kind of like 'take out'. Not sure who came up with that idea, but it doesn't really work. Part of the fun of a B&B is getting to know the other guests, and by not having a small buffet set up, we again missed out of meeting the other guests. ||The front porch area and the outside area where you can bring your picnic basket in the morning was similarly peeling paint... and also had railings pulling away from the structural posts. ||Overall... the maintenance of Nelli Littlefield leaves a lot to be desired. And for the rather expensive price they charge, the overall experience to us was not worth the price. | |Again the best thing about Nelli is the location. If it's worth that much money to pay for the location, then it's fine. We, rather, will look somewhere else next time we're in Ogunquit. (thankfully there are so many Inns...
Read moreThe Nellie Littlefield Inn is a wonderful Bed and Breakfast property in the lovely town of Ogunquit in Southern Maine, just a few miles North of the New Hampshire border. It is convenient to Interstate 95 and Route 1 runs through the town. My wife and I have come to The Nellie Littlefield in the beginning of August for the last 5 years now. The entire property is very clean from the rooms to the beautifully maintained exterior landscaping. There is a white picket fence in the front reminding me of a house on a movie set. The style is late 19th century Victorian but the interior public areas as well as the individual rooms have been tastefully updated. All of the rooms have private bathrooms with high end hotel quality plumbing and Turkish towels. A mini in ground wading pool with waterfall, and adjoining jetted spa adorn the side yard amongst the many gorgeous flower beds. There is also a workout room along with a massage spa room on the lower level. The breakfast from 8 to 10, changes daily and can include eggs, bacon, sausage, French toast, breads and pastries, real maple syrup and 3 kinds of juices including the house specialty, Maine wild blueberry juice. Every day, different scones are prepared and they are also available along with fresh baked cookies and gourmet coffee all day. Most importantly, breakfast is free of charge. One of the best things about The Nellie Littlefield is the on site parking ( parking is at a premium here ) and the location being on Shore Road, within walking distance to the beach and the many fine shops and restaurants in this area. If you would prefer, you can ride the Ogunquit Trolley Bus which stops just a few doorsteps away and for $2 you can ride all over the village. You can leave your car parked during your stay as you need not drive anywhere. Take a drive to Ogunquit, relax at The Nellie Littlefield, breakfast on the covered porch and take a stroll to Ogunquit Beach, one of New England’s most picturesque, followed by a massage at The Nellie, a soak in the jetted outdoor spa, cocktails on the covered porch and a short Trolley ride to Perkins Cove for a delicious lobster dinner, followed by a Broadway style show at the historic Ogunquit Playhouse and off to dreamland in your comfortable Kingsize bed in your private suite in The Nellie Littlefield. Life can be as beautiful as you make it!
Visited the Nellie Littlefield B &B again in August, 2019 and am happy to report that this establishment is still consistently being kept up to its 5 star standards. I will be returning next year and suggest you consider the same. You will not be...
Read moreStayed 2 weeks recently. The staff are super. Abbie was the first to greet us in the parking lot. She helped us with our luggage, checked us in and showed us our room.In the morning, we met Aaron, the manager. He also provdes a fantastic "continental breakfast." This included eggs, sausage, hash browns, peppers & onions, fresh fruit (raspberries, strawberries, blueberries, cantalope, honeydew mellon, wattermellon and an occasional banana. There was bread for toasting, scones, Cheerios®, and granola. Each day Aaron made Belgium waffles, French toast, plain or blueberry pancakes all with heated maple syrup, fruit compotes or whipped cream. They also had 6 or 7 urns of different flavored coffees, quite an assortment of teas and several juices. The coffee and tea was available throughout the day and in the afternoon, Aaron or Abbie made cookies (once Abbie's cookies were a little crispy, but tasted good anyway.) The Inn is an historic house tall ceilings. We had a room on the second floor overlooking the street. There were 16 steps. Next time we aren't going to pack as much. We had a king size bed with a very comfortable mattress and over-stuffed leather chairs. We also had a refrigerator with complimtary water and a pod type coffee maker with an assortment of coffees and teas, as well as creamers and sweetners. Coral was the lady who made up the room with Abbie, Allex and sometimes Aaron's assistance. Jennifer was also there in the gardens. She and Abbie are sisters and I think Alex is a cousin. The girls are also neices of the owner, Peter. Everyone was wonderful and we had a fantastic time. Ogunquit is such a quaint bustling town and Nellie Littlefield is in the heart of it. We liked it so much, we have already booked for next...
