Not safe in an emergency!! No where to exit.
There was a mass shooting in downtown Halloween night right in front of the beachem. Me and friends were waiting in line to get in when we heard the shots, obviously we ran in to take cover. We quickly realized this was a bad decision due to the crowd pushing in a small space, we ran to the first emergency exit down a small stair case into an even smaller hallway. NO ONE COULD GET OUT. The bouncer was not aware there was a shooting despite people yelling and shoving and refused to let people OUT OF THE EMERGENCY EXIT. Me and my friends then tried to leave the other emergency exit, a large crowd was blocking the door because again a bouncer was not letting people out. A lot of people didn’t know there was a shooting so there was still music and dancing among the panicked crowd of people who saw and heard the shots pushing to get out. We sat for a few minutes trying to get our bearings, the DJ then found out and told everyone they needed to leave, again we made our way towards the emergency exit this time we were the first people at the door. The bouncer there said “no one is supposed to leave this way and we had to leave out the front door” Mind you this is where we believed the shooter was. Literal bodies/ victims were right outside. We tried explaining this exit was not safe, police were still trying to clear the street and we HAD to leave through the back and he said “no one is leaving this way”. We explained the dj told everyone to leave and he didn’t even know that. The bouncer had no idea the club was shut down. My friend is sobbing and terrified begging him to open the door. Mind you this is a tiny hallway, with a huge crowd. Finally me and my friends physically push the door past the bouncer to open it and he pushed US back shutting the door. We pushed the door again and finally got it open, after we got out, HE TRIED SHUTTING IT AGAIN KEEPING MORE PEOPLE INSDIE. The crowd eventually over powered him and got the door open. Obviously the shooting was not the beachems fault but the fact their security has no radios, the security in the back did not understand there was a shooting and that the DJ had shut down the club, and finally they don’t let people out of emergency exits in an emergency?!??? being stuck in the beachem was the most traumatizing part of the shooting, not the shots themselves. It was insanely terrifying to be stuck in the tiny emergency exit hallways with the doors blocked by their security. I’m commenting this in hopes the owner understands the flaws in their security, and re-evaluates their emergency response so every bouncer is aware of...
Read moreOpened a tab and left my ID and credit card with the bartender. I walked out to grab a smoke but the event had just finished and I wasn’t allowed back in. On my way home my tab was charged to my credit card and I thought, no problem I’ll stop tomorrow after work. Unable to get a hold of anyone by home I stopped by the next day and was told no one was in the office and won’t be there for another hour. I left my name and let them know I had left my ID and credit card the night before. I was not able to wait as I was still working. I did not receive a call back.
I stopped by couple of days later and spoke with one of the managers. She went on to look but she could not locate my documents. I was told she did not know where to look and that the manager Shaz would call me back when he got in at around 7:30pm. No call was received.
Today I finally received a call after reaching out and leaving voicemails. Left on hold for 15min before being let known that now the bar manager would call me.
Received a call from the bar manager who claimed he was not responsible for my lost documents since now it was been days after the incident. He insinuated I had lost my documents at the bar. I explained that is not possible since my card and paper trail will indicate the charge had happened well after the event was over. I had provided my last 4 digits of my card so they knew for a fact that was the case as per their receipt records. Still, he claimed they’re not responsible simply because of the time frame.
Unacceptable. Management is not in the office at the appropriate hours. There is no one to promptly answers phone calls in cases like this. I debunked all the bar manager points and yet simply played dumb after the fact. You either need better training for your employees or new managers who know what they’re doing. Nothing more frustrating and agreeing to points made and saying ‘nope’ at the end just to be smug.
Do not trust this establishment with your documents. Pay cash or avoid it all together. If the response to my review is still ‘well, time frame haha.’ You’ve lost me as a customer all together; been coming here for years. If you’d really like to have a conducive discussion, put me in contact with a...
Read moreEdit: I wrote this half way I to the 2nd concert. Scene Queen and Set It Off were both wonderful, and the lighting wasnt seizure inducing! They were really enjoyable concerts, actually. Updating to 4 stars. Might be biased because of the bands but we had a good time so. [End edit]
We've seen two concerts here and neither have been a good experience. Staff are impolite or apathetic (at best), especially security.
The first concert, we saw SKSK and DRUGS. The sound was not well done. We had previously seen SKSK in a different venue and they were great. Plus, it was all of the bands. Donno what the sound ppl were doing but the mics were too low to hear and the instruments waaaay too fkn loud in comparison. The lights are definitely reminiscent of a night club. As someone who is light sensitive, I was expecting to have issues, but even the people with me (who've been to multiple concerts with no problems) were turned off by the chaotic lighting. All in all, not a great experience but not our worse.
We ended up coming back today, to see Set It Off. Happy to report that the sound is at least better. But their lighting is even more chaotic. They've decided it's a great idea to install what look like flood lights into the ceiling and constantly strobe them. Even if you don't have epilepsy these are seizure inducing. I do get a certain amount of lighting effects but cmon, are those really necessary? And to strobe them? At least keep it to a slower strobe or something. Three stars for the sheer number of bars and it being decent enough for a 'small-medoum" venue.
TLDR: if you're ok with crazy lights/strobes and hit-or-miss sound, sure. If you're expecting a positive venue experience, don't get your hopes up.
Also a tip, if you're seeing a band with some real popularity (for us, Set It Off), expect it...
