Hobby Haven — Attraction in Overland Park

I went in to look at drones to see what they had. I walked in and same as last year and the previous two other years I have gone into this store to do holiday shopping there and with no surprise was not even greeted, with a simple hi or anything like that, but again I've gotten used to this as it has happened before. As I went over to the drones a guy watching a Youtube video which was buffing half the time stood there asked can I help you? Yeah, I wanted to see what drones you have available... thinking ok... maybe he would show me a few they had to offer... but nope.. he was more worried about his youtube video he was watching on about drones. So I stood there and continued to look around with no help still... so money burning a hole in my pocket and ready to get my shopping done.. I looked around once more then walked out of the store again without a bye or thanks for coming or nothing.

so I figured I would call the store to see if they could tell me another place to buy drones and of course I knew what the answer was, but I wanted to see what they would say about the guy watching the youtube video not really wanting to help... so the owner answered and with little surprised said,,,, oh he was getting further education watching that video... WOW, first off you have to watch youtube videos to educate? ok... so then.. when I asked well I had said... I wanted to see what was available, now don't you think as a sales person that is the que for him to open up and ask me questions about what I want or for him to explain what you have as a company? Owner got upset and hung up... GO FIGURE

I'll be honest, I didn't expect much when I first went in. I only dropped by to pick up some junk Gunpla kits for spare parts, and while I did indeed find what I came in for, I found oh so much more. While I was inside I was met by an extremely kind and helpful staff who would make sure I could find what I needed. After I found that random gunpla kit to use for a custom build (out of a VERY wide collection, including several SUPER niche non-gundam series, many I did not recognize but look super cool) I noticed that the cashier was helping out another customer with issues with a remote controlled car, so I took that time to wander around the store and I am glad I did. Around the corner I found mixed into some Star wars and other scifi models I found a single Zoids HMM Iguan model kit at an extremely fair price. These are HARD to find, especially when you don't want to buy from scalpers. While I excitedly picked up my next purchase, I also found that EVERYTHING there was very fairly priced, even cheaper than you would find on sites like Amazon. Cans of Tamiya model paints are around $8~ a can, hobby knives and nippers are of reputable brands at good prices, seriously everything here is great. The people here are the kinds of people who do this for the love of hobby and not just to make a quick buck off the backs of fans. This store absolutely deserves your business and I will be a repeat customer for sure going forward. And it's not all model stuff either, as not my do they have a substantial RC car section I also noticed a big slot car section too and planes and all kinds of things that I may have to get into soon!

I recently went in to return/exchange a Metal Earth model that I had purchased from them. A piece of the model had torn after one bend. Upon explaining this to the employee he automatically assumed that I didn't know what I was doing and told me that I to "Have the patients of Job," to build these models. I advised him that I had, in fact, built 30+ of these models. He told me to call the manufacture of the models that he would do a straight exchange for the defective model that I had purchased from his store. I advised him that this was the first purchase I had made at the store and the previous stores had done exchanges for me on the rare occasions that this happens. He told me that they have the best selection of any store, in which I agreed. He still refused to even consider an exchange. I told him that I would take my business else where. He said OK and turned and walked away. Arrogant and seems that if you are a new customer and not a regular they could care less about your business. I would advise any other retailer.
