I'm not even sure where to begin. What an amazing first experience our family had at the Liberty Theatre. We were a little cautious after the start, haha. We had purchased tickets for Friday night online and our reservations showed 7pm. The movie actually started at 6pm and we received a phone call about 6:30 from the lovely Anne letting me know there was an issue with the time and that unfortunatley the movie had already started. She was so apologetic (not necessary) and worked to accommodate us by inviting us over Satruday night. It all worked out fine. Anne and Zane greeted us shortly after 5:00 on Saturday as the first folks in since we didn't want to miss the movie. haha. Anne knew immediately who we were. She took the time to talke to our family of 5 of the history of the theatre, the new owners and all of the amazing work they have put into the building and materials to make everyones movie experience the best it can be. She crafted my wife and I some coctails from bar and fresh popcorn was made for all who came. The pickles are the second largest pickle they can get, the candy made the kids happy and Anne gave us a true VIP tour. There was some technical difficulty with the movie starting on time (we weren't upset, we had a couple of nice drinks and food while we waited), but Anne continued to updated movie goers on the progress. She even took our kids on stage and danced with them while we waited. Anne is a gem and an amazing representation of how great our experience was. Her laugh was infectious and we are grateful we were able to spend time with her and hearing about New Orleans. My wife and I are 41 with 3 kids ranging from 8-12 and no where near retiring and starting something special for us. It has always been a dream of mine to run a little theatre and bar together and meet people who enjoy going to the movies as much as I do. This was exactly the experience I hope to be able to give people some day! Can't wait to come back! Thank you so much...
Read moreFirst, the website is deceptive. We purchased 4 tickets online believiing a small popcorn and drink was included, at $14 + $1.83 fee for each, totaling $63.32. Upon arrival we saw their posted price for kids is $12 and $11 for seniors. Our group of 4 was 2 seniors and 2 children. Purchasing our tickets thru their website cost us $17.32 MORE than advertised in the theater! Add to that the "free small popcorn and drink" is for the matinee shows only, (not clearly shown on the website). After I complained, they gave the 2 kids each a popcorn and a drink although the 2 seniors had to pay for theirs (total cost now $76!). As for the ticket price "scam", their excuse was "we can't offer the Child or Senior prices online because those ages cannot be verified before purchase". If they cannot "verify" their patron's ages when they scan the barcode upon entry and address any issues, then at the very least their website should clearly state that multiple ticket prices are available only if purchased on site. If purchased online, all tickets will be at a Higher flat rate. As for the quality of the movie experience.... It's the second time I've been there and both times the sound volume was painfully loud! First time was an adult movie and the second was a kid's movie. Both times I left with my ears ringing. Last but not least, the previews at the Children's movie were for an R rated horror film! The families sitting in the row in front of us took their kids out of the theater and complained to the management. After the previews were over they returned to their seats, dissatisfied with the excuse of "management didn't know that preview was showing". We had to tell our 2 Grandkids to cover their eyes. My advice: *Buy your tickets at the theater, in person. *Be aware of the possibility that inappropriate previews may be shown to the younger audience. *Bring ear plugs. We are locals and are very disappointed that our theater is...
Read moreThe Liberty Theater is a quaint, historical movie theater that keeps alive the old tradition of a family run business serving its community. The tiny foyer and wood structure everywhere - rather than slick plastic and fiberglass - is warm and friendly. I invited my son to go see "The Hobbit" when he was visiting from New York City. Obviously, there are fancier, more up-to-date theaters in NYC, but he immensely enjoyed the intimate thrill of going to the movies in an old-style theater run by local folks. He was also astonished by how inexpensive the experience was! I also went with my elderly parents last night to see "Frozen". The place was filled with children - mostly litte girls, many of whom were Girl Scouts - and we all enjoyed watching the kids watch the movie! It took us back to our own childhood excitement over "going to the movies", and we all had a great time. Gotta go see...
