my partner and i enjoyed being in the refreshing mountain state of colorado on a recent trip (2024) that is less recent each day that passes, which is why i want to call it recent now - i am making this date concretely recent in relation to that trip and to the current moment. each time this passage is read, that relation to time will stretch into the current second the words lift off the page and become part of your fabric. by doing this, all events from that day spent at this shop will stay recent, which is handy for leaving reviews such as this. if memory serves, you can enjoy a jolt of java here while soaking in the view of the san juan river. along the river, humans gather in what are claimed to be the world's deepest known geothermal hot springs. much of the rich history that reveals the doings of our human ancestors in this place was lost when men with explosives began attacking the springs. it could have been that these settlers had sensitive skin and found the waters to be too hot for their liking, and so they threw dynamite at it until they regained their senses. i can't say that with certainty, but if i know anything about early settler types, they did not like the earth and were set on abusing it for their needs, and were foul towards almost everything. so, while you're enjoying your coffee therapy, consider the history of the region and the people that once occupied it. this is one of the premiere places to gaze upon humans partaking in balneotherapy. it is possible that someone may cure their fibromyalgia and no longer need to take pregabalin, duloxetine or milnacipran ever again, all while you blow continuously on your finely brewed...

The prices are less than what I have experienced. I ordered a 16 almond milk latte and a slice of spinach feta quiche. It was 10.00 and some change!!!!!!!
Quality. I am sorry to all my family and friends but this quiche left you in its dust! I had to take another sip of my perfectly made latte, but my old lady readers on and look to see what in heck they may have done to make savoy firm yet fluffy quiche taste so amazing. ..... I am a bit blown away.
I had to add extra tips to the tip jar and make sure the counter folks knew it was for the cook.
Now to go back to my van, grab a swim suit and get into the river below .... for free!
Oh, and while the terrain is steep there are several options for wheel chairs and strollers. This location does have a wheel chair lift off their own parking lot. So go off the main drag down hill past the court house and go left. You will find the parking just for the Root.
During covid they are masked up and being conscious of contamination. Thank...
Read moreFor some reason a few of the people that work here are often snippy, which is rare in pagosa.
Ordered an iced coffee, they give me a cold brew. I say I'm sorry I ordered an iced coffee. The tall slender lady behind the counter get's nasty and says cold brew and iced coffee are the same thing. I politely say iced coffee is brewed coffee poured over ice, that's all I wanted. She gets snippy again and says you're just used to Starbucks and this isn't a corporate place while shaking her head and giving a face like she's truly annoyed.. I never go to Starbucks and cold brew and iced coffee or not the same thing, but that's okay just don't be nasty to me is all. She's trying to have a debate when I'm not, in front of customers. I just came in for a coffee lol. The way she and this other guy that works there reacted, seems like they have this exact issue with people ordering iced coffee often.
As though I was some boujee vacationer as she tells me they're not a corporate store, I live in town. 100% of the time I'm cordial, polite and tip well everywhere. I didn't complain because they don't know the difference between cold brew and iced coffee, no complaint that I'm charged for a cold brew, i just wanted what i ordered. It's a tough time of year to work in pagosa and a lot of people are probably crummy who walk in. But I am never that. No need to overreact and try start argument at the counter over...
