As someone who has never tried a Pilates class before, I was really eager to try an intro class here and signed up weeks in advance for the soonest intro class available after doing my research to find the studio that would be the best fit for me. I saw no info on their website stating I needed to call anyone at Club Pilates with additional info in order for this spot to be reserved. I then was bombarded with many missed calls and texts from the company telling me they would cancel me from the class unless I returned their call. I did so this evening and spoke with Matt. I had a very bad experience with him over the phone as he kept pressuring me and insisting that I needed to sign up for a 3 month minimum membership commitment and if thatâs not what I want to do then this free (?) intro class isnât for me. Additionally, because I have an LA area code in my phone number, he felt the need to constantly keep grilling me in a weird way about my proximity to their location emphasizing it is ONLY for Palm Springs residents and if thatâs not me I am not welcome. This conversation was not kind, and certainly not welcoming. As someone who often commutes to PS from the high desert (which is less than an hour away if that even matters), I found this to be extremely odd pushback. After begrudgingly confirming my time slot for the class, he was very eager to push a pair of $16 grippy socks on me in order to attend the trial class and informed me they take credit or debit at the end of the call. I simply wanted to try my first ever Pilates class here to hopefully incorporate classes like these more regularly into my health journey going forward, but the gate-keepy nature of it all felt very off putting and anxiety inducing for me, prompting me to cancel the free trial class altogether. Iâm not interested in becoming a member anywhere that would treat a prospective client this way. This is exactly why people like me have âgym-timidationâ. Would...
Read moreI was given a free Pilates class along with a few other ladies (maybe 4 or 5 of us total) This was a few years ago, but it was a truly unwelcoming experience which has affected me for a while and have only now returned to a different place to try again. I had never attended any Pilates class, or been on a reformer machine before and I made that clear before I even accepted the free class. Over the phone, it was promising, but after arriving it was clear that the instructor was not welcoming. There was only one other girl who had never taken a class but the other ladies had taken a few. The whole 45 mins-1hr, she avoided me unless she thought I was doing something âso wrong I could hurt myselfâ (as she stated), mostly spent her time on the other girls who had taken classes before, and gave me SEVERAL disappointed looks when she thought I wasnât looking instead of helping me on my form or giving pointers. She was short with me anytime I had questions or needed help, and while she smiled and was friendly to the other girls, I did not experience the same thing. Honestly I was shocked and saddened by the treatment I received. It felt like a girls club that I wasnât welcome to and even when I wanted to ask questions at the end, she gave me the impression that she was annoyed with me so I just said no and that Iâd call if I wanted to buy a pass. I was honestly afraid of getting her as an instructor so I said no. I have a complicated relationship with fitness and was looking for a judgment free and safe enviro and left felt really shitty about myself afterwards. The facility is nice, clean, and the front desk staff was very welcoming...
Read moreSince my first contact with the Palm Springs Club Pilates, I have had a great experience. Like anything we do for our health, the instructors are so important, after 90+ classes, every instructor I have experienced has been kind, attentive, respectful, good communicators and helpful in modifying the students' exercises if needed for specific injury or condition. Each student should endeavor to find the instructors whose style best matches their desires in instruction. Taking classes across multiple instructors has been beneficial as they each offer a slightly different version or focus that has really expanded my knowledge of how my body works and what I can do as the student to maximize the effectiveness of the classes. I have not typically enjoyed group class exercise, but have found this club and its members to be welcoming, encouraging and a nice community. I started with the 2 time per week membership and enjoyed the classes so much I now utilize the unlimited membership. Palm Springs Club Pilates is my zen place. I have had both hips replaced, spinal fusion and foot reconstruction. Since joining this club, my physical condition, movement, flexibility, strength and endurance have improved beyond my wildest expectations. I am not only a member, I am a fan who is now able to enjoy...
