So for maybe replacing a screen or battery on either a phone or laptop, sure go ahead and use them but you will be charged an excessive amount and you may wait an unnecessary amount of time for a simple fix.
I went into this particular geek squad location to get my new Motherboard, CPU (9800x3d), and RAM installed.
First, my original system had 2 SSDs installed. For whatever reason only one was installed into the new motherboard and the other left in the old one. I had to come back to them to get that fixed.
Second, I told them numerous times that a BIOS update needed to be done on this board so that there won’t be any instability issues with this new, at the time, CPU. I was assured that they do any and all updates and also stress test the system. That was a straight up lie. I check the BIOS myself after taking the system home and no update had been done. The system also struggles even to post (boot up). And, of course, I’ve had numerous instability issues with this system.
Third, I was told numerous times by other people besides geek squad that a fresh install of the OS (Operating System. ie Windows 11) is highly recommended to avoid any issues with drivers and whatnot. Also to back up all your data and files before changing the motherboard as the SSDs will be wiped. I was told, for whatever reason, by Geek Squad that no they’ll just pop the SSDs into the motherboard and a fresh install isn’t necessary. I’ve now gone to another IT location and was told that doing whatever geek squad did is not recommended as issues can and will occur.
Finally, since then I’ve had concerns about anything geek squad did to my system. I have no idea if anything else was done incorrectly or done at all. My system is currently at another IT location and he’ll be giving me a rundown of any and all problems. They have told me they shouldn’t take more than a day to reinstall everything and give me feedback. This is way faster than Geek Squads 1-2 day (it’s always 2 or more) install.
Some of the staff at this particular location know what they’re talking about but clearly don’t give a damn about putting it into practice. They get a lot of clients and business and would rather half ass everything and get you out the door ASAP. I tried talking to a manager when the first issues occurred but for whatever reason I never saw or spoke to them. They had gone to lunch and I waited the hour needed for them to come back and never got to speak with anyone. This Geek Squad shouldn’t be trusted with anything other than minor fixes. DO NOT trust them with your custom built PCs. DO NOT take their word for anything. DO NOT go with Geek Squad. They cut corners like nobodies business, charge a stupid amount for any service (unless you’re a total tech member which is already a scam) and will lie to your face.
Go anywhere else for your PC and IT...
Read moreIf I could give zero stars, I would. I came in for what should’ve been a simple fix—getting out of S Mode on my laptop. A Geek Squad technician attempted to troubleshoot it and ended up breaking the system to the point where I could no longer log in. After crashing it, he told me the laptop was faulty and said I’d need to pay to have it fixed—even though it was fully functional before I brought it in. Once the manager got involved, I was pushed toward a full reboot with no real alternatives offered. No one clearly explained what would be lost in the process. As a result, my entire laptop was reset—leading to the permanent loss of all my files, photos, school documents, homework, and software. I told the manager I used the laptop for school and that I was losing important assignments and documents. He couldn’t have cared less—completely indifferent. Later, I found out he even misrepresented what happened to his regional manager, claiming he’d offered me options (which he absolutely hadn’t). I was told I could either pay to fix it, accept a wiped computer, or take it home as-is. No mention of recovery options, timelines, or data protection. The only person who helped me and took any accountability was Jose, another team member. He stepped in, reinstalled the software, voiced my concerns to leadership, apologized, and showed empathy when no one else did. This entire experience turned what should’ve been a quick fix into the irreversible loss of years of work, photos, and personal data. No one followed up. No one made it right. Absolutely...
Read moreHorrible horrible. For physical damage theyre okay for anything internal, GARBAGE. My hard drive would act funky. I'll bring it to them and have it sent out elsewhere by them to get it "replaced". I think its been 5 or 6 times i bought it to them for the exact issue again and again. Waiting two weeks for it to get to me where I coulda just bought the tools myself and done a much better job than these guys, which i shoulda done and saved my laptop. I ended up eventually selling ,warranty ended and I didn't care anymore. They dont know what they're doing in some things realistically. I bought another laptop and will always decline geek squad services now. I can do the job better myself and i rather go somewhere else for other possible issues which has worked out better. Don't waste your time and money and save it for...
