Well let me start off by saying that I was already in a bad mood. My husband picked the place and it was not where I wanted to go. Walking up it looked like a nice sit down restaurant then we walked inside, while it looked nice inside it was not what I was thinking. It's not a sit down look at the menu and order your food. It's a look at the menu while you stand in line and then hope you decide what you want by the time you get up there kinda thing. They have a variety of things to choose from, too many for the type of line they have (chipotle style). Because being our first time and trying to decide not only what I want I also have to decide what three other small people are going to eat while having to ignore the mom, mom, mommy, momma when trying to make up my mind. So of course I don't know what I want when it is our turn to order so I let 3 other groups go in front of us which annoys my husband so then I just pick the seared scallops with the rice and grilled zucchini. We are given a buzzer to let us know when our food is ready. Now I'm not sure if SEARED scallops and GRILLED zucchini is supposed to be cold but I doubt it and mine was cold and the only thing warm on my plate was the garlic butter sauce that went over the scallops and rice. IF my food was warm or IF I knew what I wanted ahead of time or IF I wasn't annoyed to begin with then perhaps I would've enjoyed my time there better. They do have different sodas to choose from then the average stuff you usually see but like I said for the type of ordering system they have there are too many things to look at to try and decide what to pick for a first timer not knowing anything about the place other than they serve seafood. Doubt I'll ever go back but it wasn't gross, the employees weren't terrible, and the...
Read morePictured (clockwise): Cajun style Louisiana Delta catfish, grilled barramundi (sea bass), Cajun style giant shrimp with grilled zucchini, and breaded shrimp & breaded calamari with dynamite fries.
California Fish Grill is a trendy, eco-friendly seafood joint that cares about service, presentation, and top quality health food. The breaded shrimp & calamari were nicely crisp, though a bit bland. The moderately spicy dynamite fries were tasty and came with Serrano chili, fresh herbs, and their signature dynamite sauce which contains sriracha and gives the fries most of their flavor. I think anyone who's a fan of sriracha would love these zippy fries. The catfish was totally bland, which I find most catfish to be so maybe I'm just biased, and I couldn't taste the Cajun spices at all, but I liked the breading. The barramundi tasted similar to the catfish, but juicier. The giant shrimp was the best dish we ordered; very flavorful, juicy, and well-seasoned. The tartar sauce was creamy and zesty, the regular fries were average, the kale slaw was bland, and the brownie wasn't good at all; way too much cocoa and not enough sugar. The service was good and the food came out hot, fresh, and quick. Overall, I recommend this place to anyone who is health-conscious or anyone who...
Read moreDecided to do takeout and try California Fish Grill for the first time. The food looks NOTHING like the menu pictures.. which is aggravating because you think youâll get something at least close to it! And idk if itâs different when you do takeout (I have to plug in Red lobster here because doing dine in and takeout there literally look the same and you donât have to worry about smaller portions for the same price doing takeout)
My review: we ordered the fish and calamari w side of Kaleslaw - (star of the meal) , fish and shrimp w roasted corn and a side of Asparagus. The calamari was very dry and felt like I was chewing forever, its little mini calamari sticksđ«. The fish was ok as in edible but nothing spectacular, the shrimp was hard T chew and the corn definitely did not need cilantro in it. The best part of the order was the Kaleslaw as in I would stop by just to get a side of it by itself. Our orders came with your average fries. The Asparagus was extremely disgusting, itâs in a line vinaigarette sauce that overpowers it like they marinated it in the sauce for days and then just served it, we got a refund on the Asparagus & Iâll point out the customer service was excellent, maybe theyâre happy to have customers? I will not be trying...
