TL;DR: Incredible bagels (overall great food) but absolutely ludicrous policy on minimums. You have to get 2 bagels and 8oz of cream cheese/spreads at a minimum when ordering any bagel/spread items.
I went with a friend and we got 1 bacon burrito (incredible, albeit pricy at $17) and were planning on also getting one of their "rip and dip" bagels to share as well.
It turns out there is a minimum on 2 bagels per order. Okay, annoying, but we decided to go for it. We then find out there is a minimum on the 4oz dips/spreads too. To be clear, you do not need 8oz of dips for 2 bagels (that's the same volume as an entire Philadelphia cream cheese brick) but, again, we got over it and just decided to try more things (plain + onion bagels, scallion CC + honeybutter).
We were glad we did because they were actually delicious!! These were some of the best, freshest bagels I had ever had. I found the fact that they only do rip and dip bagels a bit off but could not complain once I ate them. However, because we had leftover dips, we decided we'd keep them and go back for more bagels the next day. BUT NO -- it's not just 2 bagel minimum and 2 dip minimum per order. You have to get BOTH. If you want one SINGLE bagel you will be forced to leave with 4 items. Ludicrous. But mostly, really unfortunate. I would recommend this to anyone looking for bagels, but clearly only if they are a family of at least 4. Wasteful and/or expensive otherwise.
Both times the person at the register taking the order was apologetic and clearly there was nothing they could actually do. The manager(s) should absolutely change this policy, make the cream cheese at LEAST half the size/price, or separate the bagel and cream cheese minimums from one another. The whole combo is just...
Read moreOrder the bacon burrito, add steak (must have) and pickled jalapeños! Thank me later! I moved to LA 5 years ago and wake and late was the first breakfast burrito I ever had here. It was amazing then and to this day it is still amazing. There used to only be a location downtown La but they have expanded a lot and now have locations in Hollywood, Pasadena, and I believe they are expanding to Marina Del Rey, and West Hollywood. I have tasted all of the locations and the taste, flavors and experience is consistent. Today’s experience at the Pasadena location stood out above all. I dined in and Bruce Lee let me try their fresh bagels and cream cheese it is now a must add to my order going forward! The bagel almost tasted like an Auntie Ann’s pretzel but the honeycomb cream cheese was the star of the show! Not too sweet but very tasty! We also got the fresh orange juice and the iced matcha which are very good but the price of drinks is around $7. While people complain about the overall price and portion size of the food I think the taste is well worth the price and I’ve never been able to finish my whole burrito in one sitting by myself it is very filling! I don’t think the drinks are worth the price but they are good. I also got the cinnamon roll to try it, it was flaky and buttery like a croissant but you can probably pass on that. It’s good if you really are in the mood for it but it may be a little overwhelming. Overall I hate seeing people do “Top burrito in La” videos and not having Wake and Late as #1. Those other burrito’s may have lower price but I tried them all and they are disappointing comparatively. I know for a fact you won’t find a better burrito in La! It’s...
Read moreDid a quick search for bagels near us and this place came up and sooo GLAD we did!
We read the reviews and were skeptical and assumed it be another hipster cafe with awful food and so glad we didn’t listen.
First impression, yes, there will be a wait and yes there will be a line. But no you won’t wait 25 minutes.. some of y’all really exaggerate so much and it shows. Like moved quickly and gentleman taking orders was so kind and really sparked a conversation with me and my boyfriend. We ordered the burrito, cinnamon roll, chai latte, matcha latte, and two bagels.
The burrito is small but honestly Americans are so used to big portions. The portion was just right, not too big and not too small. It’s full of flavor and their salsa is to die for! (If you love spicy salsas) it’s such an authentic factor salsa, we literally kept the leftover to add to our food later on.
Lattes were just right and that’s hard for matcha and chai. The cinnamon roll is to die for! So sweet and gooey, just perfect! The bagels were also a hit and their house made cream cheeses are phenomenal. Everything is just so flavorful and you can tell they care about their attention to detail.
Expeditors are quick and so friendly. We didn’t wait no more than 10 min for our order and it was full for a Saturday morning during Mother’s Day weekend.
Long story short we will be back. The entire staff is so friendly...
