Pensacola Opera — Attraction in Pensacola

We had been starving for live performance all through the days of COVID, so we were pleased to see that the Pensacola Opera was staging The Elixir of Love when we were traveling to Pensacola. It was the company's artists in residence opera, staged at their facilities, social distanced, etc. We didn't know what to expect and we were shockingly impressed. They adapted the Donizetti work, setting it in a '50s high school and creating English dialog. They left the arias alone. In any case, it all worked. It was funny, the story fit well, the young singers were EXCELLENT, and they were great actors as well...which was very important considering the intimate setting. Kameron Lopreore's Una Furtiva Lagrima was delivered with extraordinary passion and musicality. Thanks Pensacola Opera for being such a bright spot in these dreary COVID lockdown days...and thanks to Florida for giving artists and businesses some ability...

Opera is alive and very, very well in Pensacola! Saenger Theatre is a beautiful venue for a theatre production, complete with a massive red velvet gold fringed curtain, murals on the ceiling, and gilding on the walls. And that performance! The voices, angelic, comedic at times, and always full of expression were enhanced with subtitles / closed captioning at the top of the curtain. I really appreciated that, as The Marriage of Figaro was performed in Italian. The costumes were beautiful; the set design assisted the story appropriately and was efficient for set changes. The Saenger is located in an area of Pensacola where many restaurants and bars provide a convivial atmosphere, enhancing the overall experience. Great...

Best company with amazing community and educational outreach programs. Board members and staff are truly amazing and dedicated/passionate about what they do. This is no small opera company...they host seasonal mainstage performances featuring some of the nation's top professional opera singers that travel to our very own community to perform on the historic stage of the Pensacola...
