WHY MY SON NO LONGER GOES TO URBAN AIR
My 9 year-old son has been going to Urban Air {UA} in Glendale, Az for about 6 months. He was having a great time up until a few months ago, when a brother & sister singled him out for whatever reason and began annoying him. The trouble started a few months ago at the go-kart activity. The brother & sister would stop their go-karts on the track trying to block my son, and when he would try going around them, they'd cut him off and stop their karts causing a traffic jam on the track. I saw one of the UA workers speak to them, but they kept on doing it. They were also sticking out the middle finger at my son and others. At the end of the activity, the girl rear-ended my son's kart as he was trying to get out, causing him to stumble. This was done intentionally, because she rammed into him again-and-again while laughing. I happened to be making a video of my son driving his go-kart and recorded the incident. After my son finished the go-kart activity, I immediately went to the front desk to report the incident. The UA workers in charge {who looked to be adolescents} were congregated in a small group, socializing with one-another and seemed blasé when I told them what had just happened. One of them, a young man, told me that there was nothing that could be done about it, because none of them saw it happen. After I showed him the video, he told me that the matter would be taken care of, but, of course, it wasn't. He walked over to the children and said something to them, but only briefly. Then, he went back to the front desk. I did not see him speak to the children's parents, which SHOULD have been done immediately. My son asked me what he should do if they bother him again. I told him to keep as far away from them as possible, and to pay no attention to their middle finger which he has seen them display frequently. My son didn't go to UA during the month of December and returned after the first week in January, so we thought the problems with those children were over. Then, on Tuesday, January 17, 2023, one or both of them stole my son's new pair of shoes. He went looking for the missing shoes, and asked several children if they had seen them. He even went to the front desk and asked the UA workers about them. Then, he asked the little girl; the one I referred to in the go-kart incident. She told him that "some black kid was running around carrying the shoes and said they were his," which was an obvious lie. I might add, at this point, that my son happens to be African-American, and that I cannot figure out why she said that it was a black kid. My son then went to the cafe area to look for his shoes. The little girl's mother & brother happened to be sitting at a table, and he saw one of his shoes sticking out from under a jacket next to them. When they saw my wife walking over to them, they proceeded to move to another table. My wife asked the mother why she and her kids had my son's shoes. The mother told my wife that she didn't know anything about the shoes. When my wife reported this theft to management, management refused to do anything about it. There are surveillance cameras EVERYWHERE, but management told my wife that they cannot be used to investigate a theft. When my wife persisted, management became contentious and shifted the blame onto her (for accusing the woman & her kids of taking my son's shoes). So, instead of siding with the victim, management took the side of the offender. But what is really outrageous is what happened next. The following day, my son learned that his membership was being revoked. and if he and my wife ever returned, they would...
Read moreWanted to have a birthday party here, but our girls have a special diet due to food allergies. Reached out since April, to this location. Calling the location actually sends you to a main hub according to the employees. That mail box is always full and you cannot leave a message. Not knowing if we could bring in special food for our girls, we just went to play for a couple of hours for one daughter's birthday.
Easy to book online. Each location has different pricing and some different attractions than others. It was nice to be able to have all waivers completed before arrival. They make it easy. If you have any questions you will have to wait and ask in person.
They have a sign saying cleanest indoor park. We all disagree with that statement. Maybe at one time. There is a smell when you walk in. The norm of these places. We came early before it was busy, so not many people were there yet. Everything was really filthy. The orange slide had black stuff on it which staind clothing. The bathrooms, my husband said smelled like urine and a port a potty. Just over-all far from clean. Our daughter was cut on her ankle from the sharp broken balls in the obstacle pit. A lot of them are broken and were very very dirty according to them. The metal stair trim on your way to the obstical course is sticking up and a few people were tripping on it coming down. An accident waiting to happen. I am a very positive person, but this busy place is just ewe.
A few attractions were closed. They have a jump area that you jump into a big air filled area that sinks in. In need of some life. We went in a group for 2 hours. It began to get busy and lines were long. Only go if you plan on staying 3 to 4 hours or more. There is an area enclosed when you walk in filled with a wall full of rock climbing walls. Huge selection of things to do. They hook you up and your on your own. No supervision. There is only one person working in that area. It moves so slow. They really should have 2 people working in that area to keep the flow going, and to assist the kids. We got the big kids the top tier passes, but they didn't get to do much as the lines were so slow moving. Especially in the rock climbing area. They have tables set up all over for parties. A nice selection of food, drinks and snacks with reasonable prices at the snackbar area. Even adult beverages are available. So thoughtful and fun seeing they had a row of massage chair you can pay and get spoiled while the kids play.
Both of our daughter's wanted birthday parties here. It was a fun experience, but they don't want to go back. Too dirty, and too much of a wait for attractions. Our 6 and 8 year old girls give Urban Air 2 stars. I give it 3 for the variety of attractions, employee kindness, and for an employee who was working in the rock climbing area. His name was Brady. Our one daughter loved going up, but her first try, reached the top and he had to help her down. He said "Don't worry, helping is one of my favorite things about my job." He was so busy, patient, and kind. If they would just be consistant on repairs, deep cleaning, and more staff in the rock climbing area, it...
Read moreUrban Air is one of those places that absolutely lights up a kid’s eyes the second you walk through the door—and for that, it’s worth checking out at least once. It bills itself as an indoor adventure park, and to be fair, it really does offer a little bit of everything: trampolines, go-karts, a (short) zip line, rock climbing walls, virtual reality stations, obstacle courses, and a decent number of party rooms for birthdays or group events. There’s definitely enough here to keep kids entertained for a couple of hours, and if your child is high-energy or easily bored, Urban Air can feel like a small slice of chaos heaven.
The vibe is upbeat and loud—very loud—and the crowd is usually made up of families with younger children, tweens, and birthday groups. The staff are all quite young, and while most are friendly and trying their best, it sometimes feels like you're being helped by kids just slightly older than the ones jumping around. This can affect the efficiency and overall customer experience, especially when lines form or issues arise.
Now for the downsides—and there are a few worth noting.
First, the price. Urban Air is overpriced for what you get. Admission is tiered based on how many attractions you want access to, but even the lower-end packages are pretty steep, especially if you're bringing multiple children. Once you're inside, the upsells continue—from food to arcade cards to extra experiences—so be prepared to spend more than you might expect for a “day of play.”
Then there’s the cleanliness. Simply put, the bathrooms are gross. For a family-centered facility where kids are constantly running, sweating, and snacking, you’d expect a much higher standard of sanitation throughout the park. Unfortunately, this is one of the main reasons for my lower rating. The tables in the food court are often sticky or not wiped down between guests, and it’s hit or miss whether you’ll find a clean restroom or a stocked soap dispenser.
Speaking of the food court—it’s there, and it serves its purpose, but don’t expect gourmet eats. The menu is limited and definitely on the mediocre side, with basic items like pizza, pretzels, and nachos. It’s convenient but not especially memorable.
Despite the drawbacks, Urban Air still holds a lot of appeal if you’re looking to burn off some energy indoors. The variety of attractions under one roof is a huge plus, and kids usually leave smiling and exhausted, which is the goal. Just know going in that you’re paying a premium for convenience, variety, and fun—and sacrificing a bit on sanitation and service quality.
Final Verdict: 3 out of 5 stars A fun, high-energy destination for kids with lots to do—but overpriced and could seriously use some attention to cleanliness and staffing maturity. Great for a one-time visit or a birthday party, but not something I’d return to regularly unless...
