The Independence Seaport Museum is wonderful. I strongly encourage everyone in the Philadelphia area to come spend an afternoon here or better yet the whole day. There are a couple of great places to have lunch and or relax for a bit an enjoy a drink and snack from one of the many vendors.
On our visit we actually had lunch in the Hilton Hotel restaurant which was absolutely great. We spent most of our time with the two different vessels there. The Cruiser Olympia and the Submarine Becuna.
On the Olympia we also added the engine tour which was very informative and interesting. Providing a great amount of detail information and explanation on how the steam engine s on board worded. One of the best tours I have been on of this type. I am also 26 year navy veteran who was qualified in engineering and steam plant engineering. The guides were also available as you go about you self guided tour of upper decks and interior compartments.
We also did the guided tour of the Becuna which is a WWII era submarine to start off the guide was very knowledgeable and passionate about her job. She went to great lengths to explain many of the fundamentals of ship board life and submarine operations. Her explanations were in a language to fit her audience while providing technical details.
Both vessels a worth seeing for the history they represent and providing an understanding of where we have come from and the lives of those men that sail these two vessels.

Read moreI stopped by the seaport museum 20 minutes ago today. When my mother and I arrived at the harbor boat rentals at the museum, the girl working the dock told us that they did not open until 3pm. She was extremely un-interested in her job and very unhelpful. Zero customer service. We waited a half hour and walked back to attempt to rent a boat for the afternoon.... once again the very un-helpful and job hating girl at the dock told us to go buy a ticket... we turned around and walked back up the dock to attempt to buy tickets........ Where we approached another job hating employee who told us "we are not open yet (3:01pm) it's going to be a few more minutes. Please keep in mind this was roughly 45 seconds after we stood There waiting for her to make eye contact and offer help that was not helpful. I'm ashamed this was my mothers introduction to the city I love and moved to from home. All your staff did was prove to her that east coast people are rude, disrespectful and have attitudes. Now we are off to Kelly Drive 20 minutes out of the way to find another boat rental. Please find some staff who care about your company and customers.... it's...
Read moreA must see! I went to the Seaport Museum for 'Candlelight Concert A Tribute to Coldplay. I loved it from start to finish. The orchestra was refreshingly amazing. I love Coldplay and they did not disappoint. I may have to become a vagabond and follow them around the US. Oh, and I loved how the orchestra took photos with guest after the show! Just WOW! The seaport museum is a nice museum with really good exhibitions. The theatre was so nice and intimate, cozy seats and room size made for a great space. I would come back for more shows for sure. Also, If you're into boats I would check it out. The gift shop is decent with some unique gifts. But yes, the Seaport is known for hosting events, there's always something going on there. However, lots of construction in and around the area right now. But I love improvements and making things look better. I'm here for it. Surrounding area should look even better this...
