Independence Blue Cross RiverRink — Attraction in Philadelphia

Honestly, the 2 star is simply because of the management. The experience itself was great. I spoke directly to the Manager, a woman Zazzy, or something like that. I can't recall her name. Originally the issue was brought to the bartender who was closest to the photo booth and they called over the Manager. We patiently waited for the manager to come as we had a drink that we purchased and truly enjoyed. About 10-15 minutes pass and I was wondering where the manager was, so I asked the bartender and he said she had already spoken to us. I was in awe and stated she didn't. He called her over again, and i spoke to her directly. She said to me " I went over to a table and asked if they needed help, and they had no idea what I was talking about, so I walked away" In my mind, I was like well wouldn't you ask the bartender to confirm who the ladies were? Instead of rudely avoiding the situation after attempting to try one table. We sat literally in front of the bartender so we were at sight. She then goes on and says it's not her issue to deal with the photo booth and I said so there isn't anything you can do? She said no I can't help you. My main issue was not that she couldn't refund the money, but that she was just not concerned at all with finding us or being a little more empathetic towards the issue. Even the gentleman at the bar said, well I can give you a drink on the house. I didn't take it, but what was mind blowing is that she mentioned it not being the first time it happened......... ok...... well, why hasn't anyone put " Out of Order" on it??? Or called the vendor to come out and fix it so that it doesn't continue to happen? As I sat and waited for this manager, I will say I had to tell about 4 couples or families that it didn't work and for them to not insert money. I had the opportunity to spend the day at the RiverRink on New Year's Day with my boyfriend during Winterfest. We arrived early and had prepurchased tickets online. The lounge was warm, spacious, and beautifully decorated for the season. There was ample space for lounging or eating at a picnic table from one of the food vendors. We had tacos and guacamole from Cantina la Martina which were absolutely delicious. It was evident that the ingredients were fresh and prepared upon order. I had brought my own skates, so the price of $5.00 for 90 minutes of skating was a steal. My boyfriend rented skates and had to request another pair after it became apparent that the first pair were never sharpened (there were no edges on them-they were blunt as they are from factory). The lockers were $1.00 per use and very spacious.

The rink itself is beautifully maintained and picturesque with the city line on one side and bridge and river on the other. The ice is cut routinely after each 90 minute session. The Ferris Wheel beside the river also adds to the aesthetic and appeal of the area. The outdoor cabins and fire pits are available for rent for 90 minute increments and are rink side. It can easily be made into a day event with the available food vendors outdoors (ice cream and funnel cakes) and indoor arcade area. There are also beautiful seating areas throughout the space (think wooden swings and rockers) which have heat as well.

Overall, I would highly recommend a day at the RiverRink, especially if you love ice skating. I was able to skate for 3 hours (brought my own skates) for only $10! It is very kid-friendly with security present at all entrances and skating staff monitoring the ice during each session. This will definitely become a winter tradition for me for...

Not a tourist destination I would recommend outside of special events. The real diamond is the rollerskating rink. As far as ice skating you will be better of and enjoy the experience more at Dilworth Park in the winter. Best tip... don't ear or drink before arriving. Because it would very best to avoid the bathrooms at all cost. They're disgusting. The cleaning staff and the security are not paying attention, distracted by their phones or what we witnessed over a 5 hour period of time... just hanging with their friends. These people either need the incentive of higher wages or better management. It can get a little dodgey after dark. The games are outside of the normal rip you off type of fun. There's no point to play. Just take a look at any of the cheap prizes... they're covered with dirt and dust. This company should give these workers something to work for and make these games more affordable so they're not paying wages for them just to sit there. Why pay $5 for a rubber ducky, with no real gamble for the win. Save yourself the moola and go down btge road to Dave & Busters for gaming fun and bathrooms. The moon bounce and the roller skating rink are the real winners for this experience. Mini golf is meh. Wish music could have been consistently playing and a tad louder at the rink. Arcade... again employees hanging with friends and not helping or paying attention. Just overall, this place is flashy, looks cool, has some cool things to do.
