Very disappointed. We did a new room called Murder Mystery, which was a mistake as there were no statistics yet on a success rate and we ended up in an overly difficult room, which may be fine for some, but not for noobs like us. The experience started out poorly from the moment we entered the room as we made a critical mistake and unknowingly played the game the wrong way and the staff never bothered to alert us to this fact and correct us so we could actually play the game the way it was designed.
Specifically, the game was supposed to be started in the dark using flashlights and lamps supplied in the room. When we flipped on the light switch at the beginning, some clues went unfound because of this. They should have told us to turn out the lights as soon as we turned them on in order to play the game the way they designed it. For this reason alone, I feel we should get our money back, not to mention the rest.
The clues for the most part were not clear and made little to no sense. And when they give you all kinds of random numbers all over the place, there is simply no way to know what numbers apply to what or how it all connects. This room was so poorly designed and so overly complicated that the staff had to constantly give us hints and basically tell us how to do everything. We must have had well over over a dozen hints and solutions given to us, and even then we still didn't finish and would have needed another half hour. Had we finished and "escaped," it would have been the staff telling us how to do it.
Not sure the logic in making a room pretty much unsolvable by the average person. Perhaps it was designed for experienced escape room enthusiasts and professionals? If so, that should have been stated, and they absolutely should have told us we made a mistake turning on the lights at the beginning and that the game needed to be started in the dark. Beware that any "success rate" they post for the Murder Mystery room will likely be from them giving teams many hints to solve clues like they did for us, not from people actually solving it on their own.
I don't live in that area and was on vacation, so it's not like I can go back and try another room that is more reasonable. But then, maybe they are all that bad and this company doesn't know how to do rooms. I'll never know. I really just want my money back...
Read moreHorrible experience. None of the puzzles made sense or had a real flow. We had to get help to connect A lot of the clues because there was no indication they connect. There were no sounds when drawers/cabinets opened to indicate that they opened, the magnet triggers were very clearly not controlled in the room so things in the first room would open the second room with no connection between the items (ie changing time on clock in 1sr room opened cabinet in another room). With less than 10 minutes left we started to get a bunch of clues we had already gotten 10+ minutes prior and spent the rest of our game being led astray even though we repeatedly said we already had gotten those clues. Apparently our game master left at that point in the game to use the restroom. We found this out because when the manager came into explain the rest of the room he told us “sorry the girl had to go to the bathroom and asked me to cover and I didn’t know where you guys were at in the game.” He did not offer an apology or anything to compensate for our ruined experience. Apparently we only had 2 puzzles left and had we gotten the correct clues we would have escaped. It was my moms first escape room and I regret telling her how great they were based off of this experience. It should have been a fun time and instead we left annoyed and confused and irritated. Worst escape...
Read moreDisappointing Experience at "Escape Room 101" - Avoid the "Undead Outbreak Room"
My recent visit to "Escape Room 101" to try out the "Undead Outbreak Room" left much to be desired. Despite the high ratings, my husband and I were thoroughly let down by our experience.
From the moment we encountered a malfunctioning lock that the owner had to awkwardly attempt to fix himself, our excitement quickly turned to disappointment. The owner's inability to resolve the issue led to him simply bypassing the lock, which significantly detracted from the challenge and immersion of the game.
Upon expressing our dissatisfaction to the owner, we were offered a meager 50% discount for a return visit. This gesture felt more like a slap in the face considering we had booked a room for five people but played alone as a couple. It was a clear indicator of poor customer service and a lack of regard for our concerns.
Overall, our experience at "Escape Room 101" and specifically in the "Undead Outbreak Room" was underwhelming and unsatisfactory. I would caution others against visiting this establishment, as the quality of the escape room and the response to customer issues were both severely lacking. Save yourself the disappointment and seek out a more reputable and customer-focused...
