I love Michael’s, just not this one. The staff try to be helpful and accommodating, but are not knowledgeable about policies, which reflects poorly on management. I hope Ellen will more carefully train her employees in the future so they don’t provide misleading information due to her lack of guidance. For example, I was told by an employee over the phone that I could return items that can be resold. I clarified on the phone that the plastic wrap was torn off, but the barcode and all other original packing materials were included. So I made my way to the store only to be told by Ellen that she can’t wrap it in plastic so it can’t be returned. I asked what they do with items that are damaged in store and she stated that they resell them at a discount of 70%. Ellen, how is unopened paint that’s not sealed with shrink wrap any different? Ellen actually shared with me that by returning these unopened paints, I’d be causing the store to lose a huge profit. Michael’s Corporation, please know that Ellen is out here fighting tooth and nail for your 20 bucks. She sure upholds policy. Too bad her employees will only be able to uphold the policy when she’s around since they’re unaware of it when...
Read moreNice. Standard Michaels store. Needs more high end watercolors in pan and half pan sizes. I suggest Cotman by Winsor and Newton. Better fit for artists who travel and can't haul along a large tube based pallette. They do have a few by Cotman, but are basic pocket boxes. I bought one at $59, just to get some sap green, burnt sienna, and cad yellow. Tip: travelling artists should get the steel brush washer with the watertight latching lid. Empty it to go through TSA, fill it at any bathroom or water fountain. No spill, and you can use it to fill water brushes and mini-squeeze bottles, before using it to clean brushes. Second tip: get a clear make up pouch at Walmart or dollar store. It will hold your Cotman paints, mini-bottles, 8 short brushes pencils pens, a few paper napkins, and some Strathmore post cards and off cuts. All on display for TSA. Now, I need a solution for boards, tape, and watercolor pencils. Can some other artist whip something up out of...
Read moreThis review is solely dedicated to the helium star balloon I bought at Michael’s on February 27. I walked in with my daughter, not planning to buy anything in particular (classic Michael’s trip), and found myself torn between getting her a bell or a balloon because honestly, toddlers will play with anything. Ended up going with the balloon, and let me just say: it’s still floating. Literally. It’s been almost two months, and that little star is still hanging in there.
At first I was like, “$3–$4 for a single balloon?!” but now? Worth. Every. Penny.
The staff was super sweet, especially the ladies at checkout, and my daughter had the best time. She even fell in love with the little stuffed animals near the register (a very strategic placement, by the way). We left with joy in her hands and helium in the air.
10/10 for the balloon’s lifespan and the...
