This place really feels like a scam. First off, it's not made clear that it's cash only (they have an ATM which charges a fee to use). Also, there are no scales around to check the weight of the candy that you are picking, and when given your total cost they don't show or tell you the weight. I think that the candy was $16 per lb., which I'm not even positive of because no one informs you of the price per pound or the weight of the candy you picked. The décor is so busy, it's hard to pick out signs with pertinent info, but I think while paying I saw that it was $16 a lb. If so, this is a big increase from other reviews with one just a month ago saying it was $12 a lb. Somehow, my family picked out almost $100!! worth of candy, which is crazy if you saw the amount that we ended up with. Most of the candy was picked by my oldest child in just one of the paper bags. He felt so bad when he saw the total price, but how many lbs. fit in one of those bags? If it was $16 a lb., we would have had to have about 6 lbs. of candy, and none of the adults in our party thought we were anywhere close to that weight. My sister had a similar experience with her family. There are some unusual candies, which is cool, and the atmosphere is fun (but I did see other reviews say there is inappropriate stuff on the wall- again, the décor is so busy, it's hard to notice much in particular). I think this business would be much better if someone talked to you when you came in about how it all works (cash only, how much it is per lb., show you that both sides of the store have candy, etc.). I also think they should have scales around so you can check the weight while you are picking. Finally, the girl checking us out was not friendly at all. Visiting this store was not a good experience for us. Both my family and my sister's family felt conned when we paid so much for penny gum, gummies, M&M's, etc. We have visited this area many times. We all agreed that this was the only negative of an otherwise...
Read moreOur visit to Winton's was very disappointing. As other reviewers have mentioned, the store only accepts cash. However, there is no signage on the outside of the store to indicate this. The two young employees behind the counter chatted to one another throughout our visit, and paid no attention to customers until they approached the counter to purchase their candy. This is when we were first made aware that we could only pay with cash, and were directed to an ATM next to the counter. Aside from having $70+ worth of candy that we could not pay for, the store was very dirty inside, with thick layers of dust covering the various antiques and vintage items that decorate the walls and shelves. The dust, combined with the large glass container in the corner, which was filled with what appeared to be human teeth, put me off my appetite. There are several framed items on the walls, featuring various "humorous" sayings, many of which contain sexual innuendo, which I do not consider appropriate for a candy store that is frequented by children. There's also signage that is perhaps meant to be viewed as ironic or satirical, but could be interpreted as racist or politically divisive. Again, a candy store is an unusual location to showcase such items. The decor in the store was so disquieting to my youngest daughter, she actually got out of bed the night after our visit to say she couldn't stop thinking about the "creepy candy store" and was having nightmares. The candy at this store is incredibly marked up, which is somewhat expected for a tourist location where you pay for the experience, not just the candy. Unfortunately, Winton's in no way delivers on experience, and leaves you holding a sack of overpriced candy and a restless...
Read moreAdorable, lovely and extremely cute. I was super excited to bring my daughter here on her lil birthday trip. We got there, started looking around and I felt watched. I'm sure some of y'all know the feeling and then you look and your being stared at with the employee looking extremely suspicious, following your every move. Anyways it made our entire experience unpleasant. My daughter got $30 in candy and my mother purchased $10 of the diabetic friendly. I purchased a lil truffle for $3.25. The truffle was basic and sadly overpriced. Fudge looked amazing but I did not indulge. This was all rushed. Would have been worth it if I didn't feel looked down on. We would have loved to look around more . The crazy part is my little 5yr old reached into her lil wallet and put $2 in her empty tip jar. Judging a book by it cover isn't right but the store itself is truly a gem 💎💎💎 Just sad I felt rushed or like we were surrounded by crystal vases or something. God bless everyone and enjoy this lil cutie 🙂 I definitely recommend the taffy(popcorn). The rock crystal candy is so very heavy, so be careful with that one lol it will add up quick. Awesome spots for pictures outside. So cute. I could only get these few of the inside because of wanting to just get out asap because I knew I was being watched. Completely uncomfortable. We took plenty outside though🙂😇 I'll definitely go back because it's just so cute and unique and...
