I went to the port orange ubreakifix store to get the cracked screen on my iPad repaired. I thought about going directly to apple for the repair but I did not have apple care on the iPad and I had read some decent reviews on this store. So I took the iPad in. The guys working at the store said that they could fix the screen and that it would cost $150. The repair took about 3 hours. When I went to pick up the iPad I was told that the repair comes with a 90 day warranty so I felt comforted by that and I left the store.
The next day I noticed that there was a dot on the screen. I got out my lens cloth and tried to clean off the spot only to find out that the spot was created by something sticking to the under side of the glass. I had also noticed that the touch response was glitchy and would not work consistently when I would use screen gestures. I was well within the 90 days warranty so I took the iPad back to the store. At the store the guy working that day noticed the spot on the screen and then was able to see an example of the glitchy screen so he ended up replacing the entire glass under warranty.
I brought the iPad home after the repair and the spot on the screen was gone but the glitchy gestures were not. I was heading out of town so I ended up taking the screen back 2 weeks later, still within the 90 day warranty period. When I took it back that time I could not get the iPad to recreate the glitches in the store. The guy working said that if it got worse or I could recreate it then to bring it back and they could work on it.
Another month goes by and the glitchy gestures are getting worse. I am able to identify that they happen most predictably when the device is upside down, in a position you may use when laying down to read. So I bring the iPad back to the store to show the staff what the issue is. When I walk in the guy (guy #1) working the desk slowly walks out from the back room and he is either hung over or tired. I describe to him the issue and even recreate the issue using the notes app. He clearly sees the issues and says that they can replace it only if it is under warranty, which it was. They replace the screen for a third time. I get a call from the tech saying the the screen is repaired, he tested the device, and the issue was no longer present.
This time when I go to pick up the iPad I test it in front of another staff member (guy #2) before I leave the store. Low and behold, it is still happening. I show the guy #2 an example and he is stumped. At that time guy #2 walks out from the back. He takes the device and tries to recreate the issue. I watch him try it several times and it fails half of the time. He then turns to me and says that it is “still consistently working fine.” I then question what his definition of consistent is because my definition of consistent is not 50% accuracy. At this point, I ask what I can do get it fixed and he says it must be something wrong with the iPad itself and that they could not fix it because they had never seen an issue like this before. I pointed out that the iPad did not have this issue when I brought it in. It only had a cracked screen in one corner, all touch and gesture capabilities were fully functional and more than 50% consistent. We go back and forth about this for a minute and then ultimately he says the only thing he could potentially do was to refund my money.
I went in there to get my iPad repaired. After three trips to the ubreakifix store, 3 new ipad screens and roughly 10 hours wasted waiting for repairs, I ended up with an ipad that has a larger issue than just a cracked screen.
I recommend that you not take your device to this store if you want to see results. The staff clearly do not understand customer service and, from all the failed attempts getting a repair, their tech skills are lacking.
Just cough up the cash and go directly to the apple store. The bozos will do nothing but lie to your face about an issue that you both see on the screen and then...
Read moreI truly believe in supporting and reviewing local businesses that go the extra mile to provide great customer service, quickly and affordable and these guys are right on! I called ahead and found that they indeed could fix my cracked screen on an iPhone 6+. They said no problem, stop in and it would be around 45 minutes so I ran down as soon as I hung up. Upon entering the store, I was met by Tom. This is the guy you want out front if your the business owner (he may be the owner!) since he was extremely friendly, knew what he was talking about and set me at ease letting me know that they could fix it, no problem and it would be around 45 minutes (as stated before). I handed the phone over and took a seat. The place is clean, professional and just a nice place to sit if you have to kill a few minutes. Discovery channel was playing on a TV, up to date magazines and comfy chairs round out the picture. (Techy show on Disc. Channel seemed right at home) As I sat there thinking I should get into the show on TV since it would be a while, Tom appears from behind the secret wall (I personally would love to see what they do back there, but hey, it's their business!) with my phone ready in what had to be less than 10 minutes!! Bam! it was done and he was handing over what looked like a brand new iPhone. I commented on what a great looking and quick job and without hesitation, he informed me that he gave me a little screen upgrade that should help in the future (some kind of tempered glass thing, nice touch!) I don't know it will stop a meteor or anything but just the thought that he took a few extra minutes and probably not much off the bottom line just to make the customer feel special was awesome. I told him that I would give a review as soon as I could and that was this morning. Great job from Tom and the guys behind "The Wall"!! Its always such a pleasure getting service like this and these guys truly deserve this review. Check them out if your looking for ANY repair, you...
Read moreApparently I am the exception to the rule as far as loving uBreakiFix. I took in my laptop because it wouldn't complete booting up. I was temporarily without a phone so they couldn't call me. I stopped in around noon on Tuesday, and they gave me the diagnosis of a dead hard drive, $200. I gave them the okay to proceed. I asked if they should wait until my system restore disks had been mailed to me, and they said no. I also gave them my phone#. They told me they might be finished with it that day, otherwise tomorrow. No call Tuesday, but they hadn't promised. No call on Wednesday, so I waited until 6:30 and called them. They were still working on it. They finally called me around 10:30 the next day. When I picked it up, I was told they had installed the os, and had done all the patches and updates. When I got home, I fired it up. And it worked. But they had given me a different os, Windows 7 Pro, vs the original Windows 7 Home Premium. They hadn't installed all the updates and patches. A lot of them had been downloaded but not installed, and then there were more to be downloaded and installed. And I had a dead USB port that had been okay before. And for some reason there was no longer an audible beep to indicate the volume up or down buttons had been pushed. And finally, I kept getting the warning that I needed to activate my copy of Windows. Since they hadn't and I couldn't (w/o the key), after 30 days I had "This is not a genuine copy of Windows." at the bottom of my screen. When I received my system restore disks, I wiped and reinstalled Windows 7 Home Premium. I got the volume beeping back, and my USB port came back to life. (Of course, I don't KNOW this, but I can't help but think that extra day was spent trying to figure out why the USB port didn't work (something they neglected to tell me about when I picked it up). So no, I won't be one of the 5 star reviews...
