Good quality meat and the flavor is the best in the Portland area. I think they get this meat from East Coast. I am a West Coast Pastrami person but since moving here from Los Angeles area. This is the best I can find, in the area, don't get me wrong Fried Onion does not have a West coast style Pastrami..... but it does taste good and is a good quality meat! Those things considered.... I prefer the thinner cut meat with a little more Seasoning and in Califa they load up the sandwich with plenty of meat. Not here in Oregon... even here at the Fried Onion, I get double the meat and it is still lacking meat. also west coast Pastrami is on a Hoagie bun with mustard and Pickle that's it!!!!!! Not Russian dressing and burnt onions and funky marble or pumpernickel bread. I do want to say the owner couple here are very nice people they are genuine. I will post a picture of "The Hat Pastrami" Sandwich from the chain...
Read moreFirst I want to say I don't understand what's the hype is all about. I ordered Pastrami Dog. So the old lady without the gloves put my bread on the grill and push it at least 10 times without the gloves!!! Honestly for me it was already disgusting, and she never grill the side of the bread that she pushed it with her hand. The old man that was next to her the one who cooked the sausage, he wear the gloves at the beginning but at the end he took my $20 with the same gloves and gave me the change and continued prepared food for the other person with the same gloves. It was 100% unsanitary! Price! One sausage plus a couple of pastrami slices for $6,75 I have to say it's not worth it, and I did not even eat it because I can not eat something when someone touched with they hands for 10 times without the gloves. Second star just for the respect for...

I walked up to make my order, but, as I hadn’t been there before I asked the gal running the register what she recommends. She gave me a couple recommendations, but strongly recommend the “Portland beef melt,” so that’s what I got.
As I waited I was able to watch as her grandparents made my food and was able to talk to them. Great people and very friendly. I definitely love supporting small, family businesses.
The best part, though, was the sandwich. It was AMAZING! I literally called a couple friends to tell them that they need to stop in for a bite if they are ever...
