The Richmond Railroad Museum — Attraction in Richmond

What an absolutely wonderful hidden treasure in Richmond! We visited on a Saturday and found several of the gentlemen working there in the station master's quarters, singing happy birthday to one of their own.

Calvin gave us the full tour of the museum. He was very knowledgeable, shared many wonderful stories, and gave us a hands-on look at the development of the railway around Richmond.

The museum's collection is extensive and gives you a great feel for how important the railway systems have been to the area. We spent an hour touring the museum and really enjoyed our time there. Our 4 year old son was mesmerized by the stories, and even our 2 year old stayed focused!

Loved it. Go in and take your time. Allow yourself to meander a bit or get caught up in a conversation with the sweet and knowledgeable guys that run the museum. And when you are done with the historical stuff, go see the model display. I recommended you get eye level with the figures and buildings in the display. There are a lot of little hidden scenes. Some are adorable and some are so silly and funny! I wish I'd taken more pictures but I did get a couple of this really cool quilt on display. I've always been fascinated by "hobo code" language. My kids had a great time visiting the museum. We especially liked searching for fun things in the model train room. We compiled our own scavenger hunt if you want to give it a try.
